Can you share a summary on what Examity does?
"Examity is an online proctoring solution helping universities and other businesses ensure the integrity of online exams. We use video technology and artificial intelligence to keep tests secure and help schools and testing providers prevent cheating before it happens."
What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?
"Interviews at Examity will dig into how you think about solving problems. There is less focus on specific technologies or whiteboarding code that is syntactically perfect and more focus on how you think and work through challenges."

I interviewed Alex Frieden, Senior Manager, Engineering at Inari, to give you an inside look at the company's Engineering organization.

Can you share a summary on what Catapult Sports does?
Catapult is the world leader in sports performance technology, working with over 3000 teams in 39 sports around the world. Catapult provides wearable technology, video analysis, and athlete management software to improve the performance of athletes and teams.
Does your engineering team have a chance to work on projects outside of their day-to-day responsibilities?
"Yes, our engineers have the opportunity to take on initiatives that are interesting to them and that have an impact on our customers outside of their day to day responsibilities. We do brown bag sessions where engineers get to share some of these interesting projects that they have worked on with the wider organization. Our engineers use quite a few open source solutions and we regularly contribute back to the open source community."

What is the culture like at Mimecast for the engineering team?
"We have a very open and collaborative culture at Mimecast. Our engineering team has scaled over the years as a result of our product success, but we are working hard to retain the small company feel for our engineers to allow them to be as innovative and productive as possible. Not to forget a healthy dose of fun and quirkiness."

I interviewed Dr. Jim Butler, Chief Technology Officer at HqO, to give you an inside look at the company's engineering organization.
Cogito
Can you share a summary on what Cogito does?
"Cogito helps contact agent’s interactions with their customers to be more successful by helping the agent show confidence, connect emotionally and avoid misunderstandings in their communications. Although contact agents do a great job, Cogito’s technology helps smooth out the natural variability each agent experiences within a shift or across shifts for example if they’re just having a rough day for any number reasons."
What are some of the different technologies that the engineering team gets to work with and at what scale?
"We have the opportunity to work with many current technologies and languages. We are focused on cloud native solutions, working extensively with AWS. That work includes traditional services such as EC2, S3, ECS, and EKS but also more recently featured services such as SAM and Step Functions. Most engineers work across broad portions of the full stack and regularly use languages, tools, and frameworks such as Java, React, Python, C++, Go, Gradle, Groovy, Spring Boot, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Binnacle, and Jenkins."

DraftKings
Can you share a summary on what Draftkings does?
"DraftKings (DKNG) is a digital sports entertainment and gaming company. At DraftKings, we believe life is more exciting with skin in the game. What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?
"Before coming onsite (or doing a half day virtual interview), engineering candidates typically go through an online coding exercise on HackerRank, and then later spend an hour with an engineer remotely solving a coding problem. From there, successful candidates will be invited to spend a few hours on a range of problems depending on the role, such as Object Oriented Design or System Design, and talking through previous experience among potential colleagues. "

What are some of the different technologies that the engineering team gets to work with and at what scale?
"We’re building a greenfield online ordering platform based on modern architecture stack with headless leading the way. The decoupled front-end from the back-end brings a significant advantage to developers and business users alike. Most of the front-end is built on ReactJS and the back-end is built on Java Springboot. This microservices architecture leveraging BFF design pattern allows the site to scale without sacrificing performance."

"edX is a learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT that provides MOOCs (massive, open, online courses) and online degrees to learners around the world. Today our platform hosts thousands of courses from reputable learning institutions on a global scale. Our engineering team is focused on improving and maintaining the platform while our partners provide the content. Our mission is to provide access to education to learners across the world."
What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?
"We have a standard technical interview process that is made up of both technical questions and non-technical, behavioral questions. We like whiteboarding for our technical questions and we try to mix it up with some other types of questions as well. Given the recent move to remote interviews, we’ve been utilizing interactive solutions like Coderpad, Google Hangouts, Zoom, and Mural."

Can you share a summary on what Intersection does?
"Intersection is at the forefront of the smart cities revolution, which exists to improve daily life in cities and public spaces through content, services, and advertising. Does your Engineering team have a chance to work on projects outside of their day-to-day responsibilities?
"Yes, engineers have the chance to work on projects outside our sprint work. We are regularly invited to attend conferences (e.g. Dash (hosted by Datadog)). Every year during Intersection Gives Back Day, engineers volunteer their time to visit non-profit bootcamps for underrepresented populations to conduct mock interviews, coding challenges, and offer constructive feedback and support. We set aside 10% time for engineers to explore new, creative projects and ideas that can benefit them, the team, and the company. This could range from anything educational, taking courses to pursuing creative passions that can support and benefit our personal, professional, and career growth."

JRNI
Can you share a summary on what JRNI does?

What is the culture like at JRNI for the engineering team?
"A JRNI engineer is typically a ‘T-Shaped person’ with a range of knowledge and experience that means they are able to work alongside all technical roles in the company; providing insight and assistance to teams ranging from Development and implementation, through to sales and support. Being an engineer at JRNI is a vastly rewarding and social job, often the first port of call for people within JRNI who are looking for a solution, and has great visibility of the wider business goals.
Within the team, a flat structure and bottom up management style is adopted. While the team leads will always hold a final decision, the whole team is always invited to fully explore ideas and contribute to everything that is going on within the department. Many additions to the team roadmap come from team discussion and retrospective."
