Can you share a summary on what Mimecast does?
At Mimecast we are in the cyber security business and our mission is to protect our customers and their data from an ever-evolving threat landscape.
We operate our own global cloud that powers all of Mimecast’s products which includes secure email gateway, archiving and secure web gateway.
What are some of the different technologies that the engineering team gets to work with and at what scale?
We are utilizing a wide variety of open source technology here alongside technology we’ve built ourselves in house.
To call out a few of the technologies we use at Mimecast, postgres, kafka, cassandra, kubernetes, lucene.
Our platform is large, ever growing and made up of thousands of servers globally.
To offer some insight into scale our platform is processing millions of transactions per second on an average day.
What are some of the interesting projects that the engineering team is tackling?
There is a lot of initiatives in the works to add new capabilities to our platform or to evolve our architecture for the future.
We have large projects underway to build our next generation hosting, search, storage and analytics platforms to allow us to continue to scale to meet our growing throughput requirements.
We have an abundance of challenges to tackle at Mimecast for wherever your passion lies.
Does your engineering team have a chance to work on projects outside of their day-to-day responsibilities?
We’ve begun open sourcing a number of fantastic projects we built in house and for us this is just the beginning there is plenty more to come.
We are committed to giving back to the community as a consumer of open source software.
What is the culture like at Mimecast for the engineering team?
We have a very open and collaborative culture at Mimecast.
Our engineering team has scaled over the years as a result of our product success, but we are working hard to retain the small company feel for our engineers to allow them to be as innovative and productive as possible.
Not to forget a healthy dose of fun and quirkiness.
What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?
The interview process will vary per team but the common theme across any interview with us is we are looking to understand if you will be a fit for our culture and thrive with us.
During the process you’ll get to meet a number of people within your team or the wider department depending on your role and everyone will welcome questions.
Are you involved in any local tech organizations or Meetups?
We are exploring using our fantastic new office in Lexington to host meetups and events for the Boston tech community, stay tuned on that.
But a number of our employees are involved or attendees of local tech Meetups in the area.
