The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

The US Retail Markets (USRM) Personal Lines Property & Specialty team is seeking a Director, Product Research to lead the Contract and Coverage team, responsible for the policy forms across both Liberty Mutual & Safeco brands.
This leader is responsible for leading both people managers and experienced ICs, with a total team size of 15 team members. In this role, you will partner to set a vision and strategy for elevating our forms and contract to be best in class. As the forms and contract language is our tangible representation of the promise to our customers, this team has a critical role in ensuring our product offering achieves our financial goals and meets customer needs. Team is responsible for drafting and implementing changes as we build out new products and respond to the market needs such compliance or regulatory changes or emerging Claims opportunities.
As a leader of this team, you are responsible for ensuring effective processes are built and leveraged for the team to successfully execute on highly complex work. Through ideation, gathering stakeholder input, monitoring competitive intelligence, and coordinating with team across Product, Claims, and Legal, this leader will have the opportunity to shape our go-forward product.
Responsibilities:
- Management of a team responsible for drafting and developing our tangible promise to our customers through our contract and coverage language.
- Partner with stakeholder teams to understand claims and coverage concerns, evaluating ways to improve outcomes through contract language.
- Team is responsible for developing contracts for new program launches (H3, LL, Umbrella, Pet).
- Provide input to P&S product strategy and programs relating to contract and coverage.
- Manages special projects with a forms or contract impact that generate significant and measurable business value.
- Manages a team of ICs as well as people leaders.
- Leads high complexity work across a team with a range of experience levels, providing coaching and development.
- Team is responsible for conducting competitive intelligence and evaluating product language against key competitors.
- Drives process improvement to ensure successful execution of updates to contract and coverage at the state level across all P&S LOBs.
- Set vision for team members, elevating the importance of the team mandate: our promise to customers is defined and upheld through our contract and coverage.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field, PhD beneficial
- Minimum 7 years, typically 10 years or more of relevant experience
- Proven ability to influence other leaders across an organization 5+ years progressively responsible work experience in an analytically driven environment, preferred
- Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (eg, SAS, Emblem)
- Must have exceptional quantitative analysis, problem-solving, planning, analytical, decision-making, and project management skills
- Excellent leadership and communication skills through directly managing others required
- Experience managing operations beneficial
- High-level knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (eg, SQL)
- Significant understanding of competitors' pricing strategies and relationship to our own
- Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies
