The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

The Global Digital Services organization is actively seeking an accomplished candidate for the position of Director, Engineering - Cloud Runtimes. This critical role will lead our Cloud Runtimes organization, managing the companys most widely utilized application, container, and integration platforms.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing large-scale IT platform teams, with a strong emphasis on security, engineering excellence, and operational efficiency. A proven leadership track record is essential, particularly in the domains of cloud engineering and DevOps. Candidates should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of public cloud providers and cloud-native architectures. Exceptional communication skills are a must, with the ability to influence and align diverse teams effectively. Familiarity with key technologies and platforms, such as Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Apigee, and Kafka, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Cloud Runtimes organization in collaboration with architecture and product teams.
- Ensure operational excellence and platform reliability, prioritizing security, stability, performance, and scalability for a large enterprise user base.
- Leverage a robust technical background in cloud and DevOps practices to enhance the capabilities of the platforms delivered by your teams.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among engineering and architecture teams across the enterprise, ensuring alignment and the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Anticipates and manages technology evolution and relates it to business solutions.
- Leads or is involved in efforts to evaluate, select, and implement new technologies to enhance application or platform. Understands the business domain and product vision.
- Aligns teamwork toward the product vision and shared goals and links vision to coaching and feedback to managers and team members.
- Hires and manages lower-level managers and may hire and manage product owners and architects.
- Determines and manages resource strategy and plan (FTE, skills needed, depth of experience, internal and external staffing mix) consistent with the budget and needs of the department.
- Monitors application health and follows trends across multiple dimensions, determining remediating actions in partnership with teams where necessary.
- Ensures there is a target architectural direction and pulls together proper resources to define if no clear direction exists.
- Supports managers in addressing or escalating issues to make the overall team more efficient.
- Removes roadblocks and obstacles; manages interdependencies when needed.
- Initiates and fosters collaborative partnerships with current and potential clients, technology and business managers, vendors, and technology executives; develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Balances individual client needs with business priorities assuring alignment with the business and product vision, strategies, and objectives.
- Jointly establishes financial targets with business partners, when applicable.
- Established financial plan for the department and manages to plan and ensure that key goals are met by managers in their department.
- Coaches and counsels team members, especially managers regarding leadership techniques in an agile environment.
- Deals effectively with performance issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinates and delivers performance reviews and drives professional development, including rotations and special assignments
- Facilitates or provides mentoring experiences.
- Coordinates with vendors to ensure talent management, on-boarding and transition are performed in a consistent manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor`s or Master`s Degree in technical or business discipline.
- Minimum 10 + years experience in a practice relevant domain including delivering software solutions in an agile environment.
- Minimum 5+ years in a leadership role preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities. In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives, and strategies.
- Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
- Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills demonstrated through effective interactions with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
