The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
Provide an array of risk engineering services to marine underwriters, claims team and customers, including: technical consultations, on-site surveys, project specification development, project/plan reviews, and any other service requiring ocean marine risk engineering expertise. Identify, evaluate, qualify and quantify risk as related to covered perils to influence underwriting decisions and organizational profitability. Provide risk engineering services and information to track progress and demonstrate the value of doing business with Liberty Mutual. Serves as the Ocean Marine Risk Engineering contact with brokers and customer management.
- Develop comprehensive analysis of a risk for the Underwriter, in accordance with Engineering and Underwriting guidelines, in order to influence positive underwriting decisions and outcomes.
- Provide risk, project and portfolio management to qualify and quantify potential perils and areas of risk improvement as well as provide strategic management solutions for a given risk.
- Improve customer satisfaction and demonstrate the value of doing business with Liberty Mutual by working collaboratively with Underwriting, brokers and customers, developing customized risk engineering service plans and scope of other technical services.
- Perform technical loss analysis and identify root cause analysis and contributing factors
- Act as ocean marine engineering resource in coordinating field visit assignments and other risk engineering service alongside supporting risk engineers.
- Conduct on-site risk engineering surveys for existing and prospective clients. Work with major clients to enhance and/or create and implement risk management programs.
- Participates in business development and marketing activities for all Ocean Marine lines of business.
- Maintains professional credibility and consistently demonstrates technical expertise and sound judgment.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the assigned lines of business(s) including process technology, loss prevention, construction and other related issues that may impact the underwriting decision-making process. The jobholder is expected to actively pursue professional development in order to develop and maintain knowledge in these areas.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge, skills and experience in a specialized field, service planning and delivery, ocean marine risk assessment, risk analysis, solutions management and progress measurement.
- Job holders with no previous industry experience but who have relevant insurance experience in a variety of industry sectors may be considered.
- Fully effective interpersonal, writing, team building, and other communication skills required to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using various proprietary software applications and create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets using Microsoft Office suite.
- Position requires regular travel. Knowledge and skills are normally acquired through a bachelor's degree with coursework in math, engineering or related areas (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of ocean marine related experience in loss prevention or risk engineering with at least 3-5 years of specific account engineering experience.
- Candidates typically have already obtained an advanced degree and/or professional certification in one or more of the following areas: Technical or Business related Masters degree, PE, NFPA-CFPS, UL-CRE, ARM, CRM, CPCU, CIH, or CPE.
- Candidates are typically already members of or active participation in various industry groups, committees, or leadership positions.
