CMT is looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Director, Embedded Systems Engineering to lead the development of embedded software and firmware of next-generation IoT devices integrating cutting-edge mobile sensing, mobile applications, and cloud-based software. The Director, Embedded Systems Engineering will collaborate with Hardware Engineering, QA, Cloud Engineering, Data Science and Product Management to drive successful execution of the IoT product roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the execution of a software and firmware development roadmap aligned with company objectives and customer needs
- Establish the infrastructure, systems, and methodologies needed to support a regular cadence of high-quality software and firmware releases
- Provide guidance and support to firmware and embedded software engineers to enhance their skills and career growth, while also overseeing daily operations, task assignments, and project timelines to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of deliverables.
- In concert with Hardware Engineering leadership, jointly lead development teams through design, code review, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, and verification and validation testing.
- Develop common workflow, process, procedures, configuration management, and quality assurance methodologies to increase efficiency and to maintain or improve quality of firmware or embedded software deliverables.
- Collaborate with the hardware engineering team to choose components with suitable I/O and features that meet customer requirements.
- Oversee teams in the development and maintenance of documentation, including software/firmware release notes and procedures, using tools like JIRA.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent years of experience and/or certification
- Advanced degree is a plus
- 9+ years experience in embedded software / firmware engineering
- 5+ years experience leading software/firmware teams through product deployment cycles
- Experienced in team-based firmware development processes, software tools, technical specification development and documentation standards, and conducting formal design reviews.
- Solid understanding of agile software development, with hands-on experience using Agile/Kanban/Scrum methodologies to produce and release products.
- Ability to handle multiple projects in an environment with aggressive deadlines in a high growth environment.
- Experience with leading teams to ensure project success by setting clear goals, holding deadlines, and fostering a culture of continual improvement through regular feedback and process optimization.
- Ability to lead the team in a collaborative manner
- Humility and the ability to acknowledge missteps and mistakes
