Can you share a summary about Nayya?

Over 30% of a worker's total compensation comes from employer-provided benefits, yet many employees choose their benefits without fully understanding their options, leading to underutilization. Nayya addresses this issue by empowering workers to make informed decisions about their benefit selection and utilization.

Our process begins with a secure, confidential survey that helps us understand each employee’s specific needs. Based on this information, Nayya provides personalized benefits recommendations. Nayya also serves as a comprehensive benefits hub and personal guide. Employees can access and track their benefits, receive notifications on opportunities to save money, and maximize the advantages available to them. Nayya ensures that employees not only choose the right benefits but also get the most value from them throughout the year.

What are some of the different technologies that the engineering team gets to work with and at what scale?

My team works in a Rails monolith. The team recently migrated the Nayya app over to Ruby 3 with great success.

My team is focused on building APIs that ingest data about benefits and eligibility from our partners. Some things we are excited about building include webhook infrastructure and self service auth. As we scale, it is important to make the API onboarding process for our partners more and more self-service.

Other teams in the org leverage Typescript, React, and Python for their work.

What are some of the interesting projects that the engineering team is tackling?

The domain knowledge required to build meaningful products in the healthcare space is complex. Mapping these concepts into code is a challenge. The engineering team has recently done an overhaul on how we model benefits. I am excited for my team to use this new modeling in our work! I know it will help us build out new features more quickly in the API.

Does your engineering team have a chance to work on projects outside of their day-to-day responsibilities?

Developer experience and enablement work is very important to me. This type of work often extends beyond specific product domains. At Nayya, we address cross-cutting initiatives through our Front-End and Back-End guilds. These guilds consist of engineers from various teams who collaborate to promote larger projects on the platform.

What is the culture like at Nayya for the engineering team?

The engineering team is growing and most of the team has been around for less than a year. Our culture is still being shaped, and every new engineer has a say in what the culture looks like.

Thursdays are our designated tech org day when most NY area employees come into the office.  With many full-time remote engineers and a hybrid schedule, we are thoughtful about including everyone in meetings, regardless of their location.

One thing is for sure, I have never seen a team that uses more react emojis in a Google Meet room.

A new experience for me at Nayya is the monthly tech org retrospective. I appreciate this regular cadence, as it demonstrates our commitment to coming together and reflecting as a team.

What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?

The recruitment team at Nayya is awesome. I have never had a more streamlined experience than the one I had here! Our coding challenge is more focused on skills that engineers use on a day to day basis instead of obscure algorithms.

Are you involved in any local tech organizations or Meetups?

A former coworker of mine runs NY Code and Coffee. I need to make it to one of those meetups soon :)!
