The details on Wistia
Yes, so Wistia is a wacky, crazy fun startup here in the Cambridge, Massachusetts area. We help businesses thrive with businesses. But primarily we focus on the SMB, so small to medium sized businesses. And so we are looking to help companies grow through utilizing video.
What they look for in a candidate
And so, there are several qualities and different things that we look for ideal candidates. But number one is We value diversity, we're always looking for candidates to bring their authentic selves to work, be you be who you are. Second thing we're always looking for candidates do or have the ability to wear multiple hats. We're a very scrappy environment here at Wistia. We're only around 200 employees total currently, but we're growing rather relatively fast. And so we're looking for candidates who are very agile, who's able to wear multiple hats and has scrappy attitude. We're always looking for solution oriented people, yes, it's great to hire people that are able to identify problems. But oftentimes, if you identify a problem, we're looking for you to be the one who solves it. And we're very small. And then lastly, there are a couple other things is soft skills. Soft skills are super, super important, no matter what role you are, because we're a relatively small company you will be interacting and engaging with and our customers VPS directors. And so if you're looking for that kind of environment, I often the time worked very closely with our owner himself as well. And then lastly, alignment with our work style. And so we mostly work remote, we do have an office here within Wistia, within Cambridge, but it's absolutely volunteer to go into the office, we do not push people into the office. And so you'll find that some people go into the office maybe a couple times a week, it's absolutely volunteer, but primarily we work on as a distributed team across America. And we primarily work remote. And so that works with some people. And some people love working with remote and being able to work in that work style. And then some people love working in the office. And so we accommodate both, but primarily we're remote first company.
Wistia's interview process
The interview process at Wistia is very built out, we make sure we meet with our hiring managers. And we create a hiring process before we ever launch roll. But essentially what it will all include is one versus is going to be a recruiter screen with either me or my partner, Jeremy. Second will be a conversation with the hiring manager kind of getting getting a feel for if you're the right fit for the role. We also realized that everybody has their own bias. And so we like to invite coworkers are different peers that you will essentially work with on a daily basis. That typically is within our round one. Round one is more of a collaboration, interview where you're meeting with those various peers. And so a couple of common interviews within the round one interview is a culture interview, a partnership interview, or leadership interview, if you're going to be managing and hiring a team, and then a technical interview or some kind of technical assessment. And so if you're doing an analyst role, it might be doing sequel or databases. If you're doing more of like a content role, it might be testing your writing skills. And then there's always a project round, Project round for more of the go to market side of things will be a hypothetical project that will test your or outline your skill set, where you then will be presenting a potential solution. And then if it's engineering, there's always a take home test where you are able to do that take home test at your own time, and complete it at your own speed. And then the final interview, and this is optional. Sometimes it's mandatory, depending on what role you are applying for. The definer interview is typically interviewing with the VP or director, and they typically have final say, but all in all, the interview process usually is pretty fast. It usually takes somewhere between five to six weeks, and each one of those rounds usually take at least one week.
How to stand out
I think the biggest thing to stand up for Wistia is one make sure you're doing your research, making sure that you're taking some time to kind of look into Wistia beforehand. We have the great thing of it is is Wistia is a video company and so we have a lot of video content out there. Go to venture fairs, obviously, but you know, utilize our platform What are our tech blogs? Second biggest thing is I see that really helps us is actually sign up for a free account within Wistia. And we offer free accounts, creative video, play around with it. I've actually had candidates create videos, and then email me like, Hey, I'm utilizing Wistia. Take a look at my resume. That has also been something that has been very, very impressive. But I think the last thing is, is knowing that we are a Mar tech company. And so we create marketing software for marketers, specifically, video software. But why do you want to work for a company like Wistia? Why do you want to work at a startup environment? Are you going to be excited to you know, help marketers solve marketing issues? Do you want to work for a Mar tech company? And how does that align with your career growth? And so if you're at a bigger company, you want to come to a smaller company, great, you know, why'd you know? Why does that make sense? Really, the next step within your career? Or if you're like, Hey, I'm at a fin Tech, I really want to get into marketing. Let us know that that's a passion for you and why and you know, to not essentially we'll help you, you know, definitely get further within the interview rounds.
Why they should be on your radar
So, there's a couple of different reasons why Wistia should be on any job seekers radar. One is because video is drawing video has not hit its peak yet video is still growing at explosive rates. Video is something that all businesses can use and utilize from being a content creator to being a small business owner. Video is something that is continuously growing at a fast clip. And so you see things like tick tock really taking off you see people creating content on YouTube, you also see people and Facebook and meta moving into more of a video first platform. And so I don't see those trends slowing down anytime soon in general. Second reason why is whist it is that small startup that is growing at an explosive rate that is super exciting. We're only around 200. And so employees total. But the impact we're having in the market currently, you know, we continue to grow at fast paces. And then lastly, if you're interested in working in marketing directly to marketers, we're one of those mahr tech companies that get we create software. And so the awesome thing of it is, especially if you're on the marketing side of things, is you're communicating to your own co workers, are you creating really cool video software, you're helping other companies do video hosting, you're helping to create editing tools that you know users will actually use to edit their videos. And so you are able to very quickly see the impact that of the content and the kinds of things that you're creating.
