The Role:
Goddard is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to play a key role in helping shape our financial function while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting. This position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration who is a senior member of the Company’s executive team. In this role, you will oversee the daily financial operations, lead the accounting function, and develop strong financial processes and controls to support our rapid growth.
You will collaborate closely with our Director of F&A and key leaders across the organization. You will lead, supervise, develop, and grow staff over time. This position will be based at our Beverly, MA headquarters, with a hybrid schedule consisting of two to three days a week in office.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Tax, Audit, Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Payroll, Capital Expenses, and Fixed Assets.
- Manage monthly closings, consolidations, and preparation of consolidated financial results.
- Reconcile Key Ledger accounts to support accurate financials (Cash, 401K Liabilities, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage and process Weekly Payroll, ensure accurate and timely submission ensuring Federal and state withholding and tax compliance.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of the ERP system, NetSuite.
- Internal Controls: Safeguard company assets by establishing and maintaining corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Develop and implement internal control environments, processes, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure cost and expense control procedures are in place and analyze cash flow and expenses to guide the executive team.
- Fiscal Year Audits: Lead and manage the year-end external audit process in coordination with local finance teams. Interact directly with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process.
- Taxes and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all sales/use tax obligations are met as well as any financial regulatory filings including around payroll and payroll taxes. Work with the Director of F&A and outside tax advisors on income tax matters and filings.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: Support the Director of F&A’s needs as part of the quarterly forecast and annual budgeting and planning process.
- Track variances between actual results and forecasts, explaining key drivers.
- Collaborate with department heads to develop accurate project budgets.
- Support deal and project reporting and analysis.
- Department and cost center reporting.
- Project spending reporting.
- Report management metrics and dashboards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA is nice to have. Advanced degree is a plus.
- 6+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role. Small company experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial principles, P&L management, and cost control.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Excel); experience with NetSuite is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Excellent communications skills, including the ability to provide data in a concise and appropriate manner.
- High degree of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Highly self-motivated individual with the ability to work autonomously.
