We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our R&D team based in Bedford, MA office. In this newly created role, you would manage a highly talented team of mechanical and product engineers who are passionate about delivering disruptive innovation to surgeons and their patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level technical and people leadership to a small team (3-5 engineers) responsible for the design and development of our electromechanical stapling instrumentation from initial concept through transfer to production and throughout the products lifecycle.
- Drive day-to-day activity to achieve results including removing roadblocks to solving technical and other challenges, managing resource conflicts, upholding high-performance standards, and meeting commitments.
- Own the Design History File and all other relevant product documentation (including transfer to production), ensuring compliance with our quality systems.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with other teams/departments to drive product improvement and new product launches.
- Participate in high-level product definition and design requirement decisions and translate these into comprehensive project plans for product improvement, DFX changes, and new product launches.
- Support RA/QA, Supply Chain, and Operations -driven product initiatives.
- Review work and projects for technical accuracy. Lead design reviews and ensure team members consider all cross-functional project goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent area of study.
- 8+ years of overall experience, including capability and/or experience to lead medical device development teams through complex technical project. Candidates with experience in other highly regulated industries, such as defense or automotive, are also encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated ability to bring a product from initial concept development through transfer to production.
- In-depth knowledge of first principles and their application to mechanical design, development, and root cause analysis.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to energize, empower, and unite a team in a common goal. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines through a team. Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks. Direct people management experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to motivate a team, estimate resource requirements, and create predicable schedules.
