I’m Alli Arena and I am a Senior People Operations Specialist at ezCater.

I think the exciting part is that it can kind of be different any given day. I’m typically working on a project basis. So those projects could span anywhere from more of a company-wide initiative. For example, we do annual engagement surveys, which is something I work closely on, both producing and reporting on, to share with the company. Then there are some smaller initiatives within the People team as far as auditing and making sure our data is up to date, keeping track as we have employee changes, and anything there. So, every day can be a little different, but I’m typically working on more of a project basis.

I have loved being on ezCater’s People team. I think one of the best parts is how cross-functional we are and how closely we work together. We have a really close connection on how what each team is doing connects to each other and what the payoff will be on the broader scale of the company as a whole. And everyone on the team is really excited about what we can do at ezCater and ways that we’re growing and evolving. And so, it’s been really, really cool to see how cross-functional the team is.

Prior to joining ezCater, I actually worked at another larger tech company doing sales and contract management. I knew pretty early on in my career there that I really wanted to end up on the People side of things or the Human Resources side of things, and recruiting felt like a really natural first step there. I think there’s a lot of overlap between sales and recruiting and just kind of transferable skills as far as pipeline management, running discovery calls with either prospects or candidates. And so, I applied to ezCater to be an Associate Recruiter. It felt like a really great first step to get exposure in that world, and I moved over to ezCater. I was in the recruiting function for, I guess, a little over three and a half years all in all. I was a Business Recruiter, and then I really loved the operational work that I was able to do in recruiting, such as bettering the process and making things more efficient, and that’s really what piqued my interest in operations.

I think the biggest piece is the opportunities for growth that you’ll have. ezCater’s at a really interesting stage of growth right now where we are definitely established—we’ve got a good thing going on—but at the same time, there’s a lot of room to make things more efficient and to really grow our various functions. And so, with that growth stage comes a really cool opportunity to be part of things like owning engagement survey reporting or to be part of auditing our HRIS system and making that more robust for the future of the company.
