How Wasabi is Giving Back

As leaders in the Boston Tech community, Wasabi strives to inspire by example and give to those who are most in need. We connected with the team to highlight some ways Wasabi is giving back and how they stand by their values.

Who is Wasabi?

Recognized as one of the technology industry’s fastest-growing companies, Wasabi is a Boston-based tech company that is on a mission to store the world’s data by making cloud storage affordable, predictable, and secure. With Wasabi, visionary companies gain the freedom to use their data whenever they like without being hit with unpredictable fees or vendor lock-in. Instead, they’re free to build best-of-breed solutions with the industry’s fastest-growing ecosystem of independent cloud application partners. Customers and partners all over the world trust Wasabi to help them put their data to work so they can unlock their full potential.

What are your company’s core values?

At Wasabi Technologies, our mission is to empower individuals and organizations to harness the power of their data through innovative cloud storage solutions. We strive to create a dynamic and inclusive workplace that fosters creativity, collaboration, and personal growth. By attracting diverse talent and nurturing a culture of continuous learning, we are dedicated to shaping the future of cloud technology while delivering exceptional value to our customers.

How would you best describe the culture at Wasabi?

At Wasabi Technologies, our values guide everything we do, shaping our culture and driving our mission. Our H.O.T. values, which stand for Humility, Ownership, and Togetherness, are more than just an acronym; they reflect the values we want to see thrive in our workplace.

We value and respect others and are open to feedback and suggestions, recognizing that no one person has all the answers. We take personal responsibility for our actions, decisions, and outcomes, recognizing that we have a voice and that each individual can make a difference. Finally, we thrive when there’s collaboration, teamwork, and inclusivity.

What types of initiatives are employees involved in?

Wasabi is committed to collaborating with partners and adhering to our guiding principles to create community and employee engagement initiatives that make a true impact—in ways authentic to who we are—in Boston and beyond.

Wasabi sponsors the Red Sox Foundation’s Run to Home Base event, which supports veteran charities while actively elevating Wasabi veterans around such causes. Each year, Wasabi assembles a team to run in the event and raise money for this worthy cause.

Additionally, Wasabi employees take part in the Red Sox Foundation’s STEM Education Day to introduce technology to young learners.

This year, Wasabi launched its first Volunteer Day, offering all employees time off to volunteer with a local organization in their community. In Boston, Wasabi team members volunteered at Cradles to Crayons and the Esplanade Association Charles River Cleanup. Remote workers were able to select an organization of their choosing to spend the day at.

Can you provide some examples of charitable events that Wasabi is involved with?

Wasabi partners with the Boston Bruins Foundation to create athletic and educational opportunities for girls and young women in New England, such as through Girls Hockey Day.

The Wasabi Fenway Bowl Honor Roll Program honors exceptional educators who go above and beyond for their students. Since its establishment, the Wasabi Fenway Bowl Honor Roll has awarded 140+ teachers and given more than $130,000 to support education across New England.

Wasabi partners with other Boston-based technology companies on causes such as Tech Tackles Cancer, which benefits St. Baldrick’s Foundation for childhood cancer research.

Why is being active in charitable events important to Wasabi?

At Wasabi, we believe that our responsibilities go beyond providing a product. Being active in charitable events reflects our commitment to creating a positive impact, not just in the tech industry, but in the communities where we live and work. Participating in these events allows us to give back, support causes that align with our values, and foster a culture of empathy, inclusivity, and social responsibility within our organization.

Engaging in charitable efforts also strengthens our team by bringing employees together around shared goals that matter. It enhances morale, builds community connections, and demonstrates that we are a company driven by purpose as much as by innovation. In short, it’s an essential part of who we are and how we define success.

Why it matters to employees…

One of the things I value most about working at Wasabi is how deeply the organization and its employees care about each other and our communities. That culture of support and camaraderie came to life for me when I participated in Tech Tackles Cancer, a battle of the bands-style event that brings the tech world together to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. For the last two years, I had the chance to fundraise and sing…even winning the Best Vocals award one year! But what truly moved me was the overwhelming encouragement from my Wasabi colleagues. Many of them came out to cheer me on and contribute to the cause! It was so meaningful knowing that the funds my colleagues and I collected go directly toward research, treatment, and support for children and families facing unimaginable challenges. Combining my passion for music with a mission this important is something I’ll never forget.

It’s experiences like this that make me proud to be part of a company that encourages us to give back in ways that are meaningful to us. At Wasabi, philanthropy is part of who we are. Whether we’re supporting incredible organizations like Tech Tackles Cancer or taking Volunteer Time Off to serve our local communities, I appreciate how all of us at Wasabi always show up with heart and a shared purpose.
