ezCater, the leading technology platform for Food for Work in the U.S. seeks an experienced senior lawyer to join its growing in-house team. Reporting to the Chief Legal and People Officer, the Assistant General Counsel, Product will lead legal strategy and guidance on ezCater’s evolving technology-driven Product suite. This role will serve as the primary legal partner to the Product, Engineering, & Design teams, helping to design, launch, and scale products and features in a way that is legally compliant, customer‑centric, and helps achieve ezCater’s business objectives.

What You'll Do:
- Serve as lead product counsel from ideation through launch and lifecycle management.
- Ensure the provision day‑to‑day of high-quality, efficient and solution‑oriented legal advice on product design, UX, data flows, and go‑to‑market strategies across web, mobile, APIs, and partner integrations. This will be executed both as a senior individual contributor and via close supervision of other lawyers on the ezCater in-house team.
- Partner closely with the Assistant General Counsel for Litigation, Compliance & Insurance to identify emerging regulatory considerations or constraints that could impact product development and together to devise creative, business‑aligned options.
- Manage the Company’s position and use of in-product disclosures, terms, UX flows and customer/partner messaging (including for example content featured in help centers, in-product review features or other feedback mechanisms) to manage risk while preserving a high quality user experience.
- Partner closely with the Director and Managing Counsel, Commercial on all terms of use governing product features and use by customers, partners and other third parties of ezCater’s products. And support, as needed, the Commercial team in product descriptions and positioning to support B2B sales.
- Design, develop and rollout to key stakeholders a legal approval process for new and materially changed product features and design elements.
- Help architect, in collaboration with other senior lawyers and the Chief Information Security Officer, data governance policies, standard operating processes including monitoring of compliance with the same, including data security and privacy standards, as well as retention.
- Help lead with other internal legal and non-legal stakeholders the development of the Company’s next generation Privacy Program, including responsibility over Privacy Policy terms, internal guidance to ensure Privacy standards are upheld within existing and new Product features and partnering with the Compliance team to oversee the inhouse team’s ongoing development of Privacy subject matter expertise to support privacy advice across the business (e.g. employee data, B2B deals, third party integrations and data sharing).
- Proactively acquire and maintain up-to-date expertise in the evolving landscape of AI-features in product design, both back-end and customer facing.
- Lead the enhancement and ongoing maintenance of the inhouse team’s knowledge base regarding competitor and comparators’ product features as it pertains to areas of legal risk and compliance.
- Develop and deliver training and enablement for product managers, designers, engineers, and other business partners (e.g. sales leaders) on key product attributes and legal concepts (e.g., consumer protection, marketing and claims, terms structure, regulatory focal areas).
- Support in conjunction with other lawyers on the in-house team, legal review of marketing and communications.
- Support as needed ezCater’s strategic defense of claims in litigation or engagement with regulatory agencies at the local, state and/or federal level.
- Contribute to legal department initiatives to improve process, tooling, templates, and knowledge management, including playbooks and self‑service resources.
What You Have:
- Juris doctor from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in at least one state bar.
- Minimum 15 years of experience, ideally with time spent at a large law firm and minimum of 7 years in‑house, preferably in a technology, e‑commerce, payments, or marketplace/platform company.
- Significant experience as lead product counsel or senior in‑house advisor on product design and go‑to‑market strategy for digital products. The desired candidate will preferably have experience in both B2C and B2B product environments.
- Deep subject matter expertise in consumer protection, marketing/advertising law, and general platform/e‑commerce regulatory issues, with demonstrated ability to apply these principles in a practical, creative and business‑forward manner.
- Solid proficiency with U.S. data privacy laws and relevant experience advising on data security incidents, privacy controls and data management, including but not limited to data retention and destruction.
- Experience advising on TCPA, CAN-SPAM and similar state privacy controls.
- Proven track record designing legal review processes and controls in high-growth environments, including skill at building cross-functional trust and buy-in to ensure compliance.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with commitment to delivering legal advice that is holistic and balances risk with business objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume workload productively, while prioritizing high impact/high value deliverables in a client and business first manner.
- Commitment to building strong cross-functional relationships and successful collaborations while ensuring the Company remains legally compliant.
- Ability to travel up to 5 days per quarter for Together Weeks, team gatherings and other events, when applicable.
