We want to demystify the hiring process, so we connected with Kelsey Hersh, Director of Recruiting, to give you the inside scoop on how to land a job at Hometap.
In this video, Kelsey discusses:
Who is Hometap?
Hometap is a fintech company based in Boston on a mission to make homeownership less stressful and more accessible. The company offers two core products. Its flagship product is a home equity investment that allows homeowners to access their home equity without taking out a loan or selling their property. Additionally, the company offers a digital platform called the home equity dashboard, which is designed to empower homeowners to make informed financial decisions. The company prides itself on a culture where employees act as good owners and good neighbors, meaning they own their work and are ready to lend a hand to their colleagues.
What is the Hometap interview process?
The hiring process at Hometap consists of several distinct stages:
- Initial Phone Screen: Candidates begin with a phone screen with a recruiter to share their background, align on the technical aspects of the role, and ask questions about the company.
- Hiring Manager Interview: The next step involves digging deeper into the role and discussing functional experience directly with the hiring manager.
- Take-Home Exercise and Presentation: In most cases, candidates complete a practical take-home exercise and present their findings to a cross-functional group of team members.
- One-on-One Team Interviews: The final step includes individual conversations with team members, the hiring manager, and cross-functional colleagues who interact with the position to ensure mutual alignment.
How can candidates stand out in a Hometap interview?
Job seekers can prepare and stand out during the hiring process by leveraging specific resources:
- Review the Company Website: Spend time exploring the dedicated candidate experience page and the culture book to understand how the team approaches work and what values they prioritize.
- Read Trustpilot Reviews: Look at customer feedback to see the company’s commitment to the homeowner experience and investment process.
- Ask Questions: Candidates are not expected to be experts in home equity investments. Demonstrating curiosity and asking insightful questions is highly encouraged and helps an applicant stand out.
Why should you work at Hometap?
Hometap offers an environment focused on growth, transparency, and flexibility:
- Consistent Culture: The company has maintained a positive, strong culture even while doubling in size, supported by an accessible and transparent leadership team.
- High Impact: Due to the company’s size, every individual contributor makes a direct impact on the organization’s growth and success.
