My name is Sage Timoteo. I’m a lead tech and product recruiter here at ezCater. We are excited to talk a little bit more about our application process today and, obviously, hopefully set some folks up for success as they go through it.

The Details on ezCater
What ezCater is, if to put it simply in one sentence, we’re the number one food tech platform for workplaces. We provide everyday food at work for folks. And who doesn’t love food at work, right? It’s the bread and butter of what we do, no pun intended.

Qualities of an Ideal Candidate
At ezCater, when we’re hiring, we look for the technical skills that any given job might need. When you look at a job description, we outline the things that would make somebody successful in the role given their background. But more than that, we look for the humans. We look for the folks that you are excited to get up and work with every single day, that want to bring their best most authentic selves to work, and that you want to collaborate with because we have a very strong culture of collaboration.

We are looking for great folks that can keep not just their teams in mind but our customers in mind as well. We think about food at work—it can be the best part of somebody’s day and we don’t take that lightly. We want to make sure that we’re creating the best possible experiences for our customers and for our restaurant partners that use our platform to build out their catering businesses.

The Interview Process
We’re very aware that interviewing at ezCater is also you interviewing us. We want to make sure that’s a two-way street, especially when you want to understand if this is the place you want to spend the bulk of your time. We lead with transparency. If you’ve spoken to me or one of the other recruiters, you know that we like to talk about ezCater and the things that we’re up to, and we’ll also give you a pretty deep dive into the team position and role.

It starts with the application process. Then you’ll have a talent screen with one of us where we go through the role and ask you a few questions about yourself, your background, and the things you’ve been excited about in your past work history.

Past that, we go typically to our hiring manager phase where you’ll spend about 30 to 60 minutes talking about your background. Some roles may have a technical component, others are more conversational or behavioral. Our hiring managers are just trying to get to know you and make sure that if you are a good fit for the team, they’re a good fit for you.

If all things go well, the next big step is our face-to-face round. In this day and age, it’s a virtual face-to-face over Zoom or Google Meet. Those final panels are made up of three to four conversations where you’ll get to meet members of the team you’d be joining and members of the partner organizations that work with that team.

How to Stand Out
If I’m providing tips, it’s to make the resumes and your profiles—the wins that you’ve led through your career—as easy for our teams to find as possible. We want to see the things that we’ve outlined in a job description come through on a resume. For our roles, we want to make sure that if you’re the right person, we’re finding you and getting you into our process as quickly as possible.

When you’re developing your application, highlighting some of the things that we’ve highlighted in our job descriptions in the work experience that you’ve done is extremely helpful.

Why Join ezCater?
As a business, we have evolved in some really cool and exciting ways over the last five to seven years. But what’s never changed is the culture. We are obsessed with the people that we serve every single day. Internally, we have a high culture of collaboration, communication, and support. Anybody that we hire, we’re not bringing you on to tell you how to do a job. We want you to come in and show us the next best way for us to approach a problem.
