Symbotic
Quality Engineer
Job Description
What we need
As a Quality Engineer, you will support new production implementation and ensure robust quality systems are embedded into new Symbotic product launches and production transfers. In this role, you will drive defect prevention, process validation, and production readiness for robotic platforms and assemblies while partnering cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test teams. You will lead and collaborate on the APQP planning activities from prototype builds through production ramp, ensuring customer, regulatory, and internal engineering requirements are met. This role also involves analyzing field performance data, robot health metrics, subsystem defects, and site quality trends to identify improvement opportunities and enhance product reliability.
What we do
The Quality Engineering team ensures Symbotic products successfully transition from development into production by partnering cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test teams. The team focuses on quality planning, defect prevention, and process validation from prototype through production ramp, using product and field data to drive continuous improvement. By embedding strong quality practices early in the product lifecycle, the team helps ensure reliable product launches and consistent system performance.
What you'll do
-
Lead all quality deliverables for new robotic product launches and production transfers, ensuring manufacturing readiness prior to SOP.
-
Collaborate and Implement the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, ensuring all phase gate deliverables are completed on time and risks are proactively mitigated.
-
Drive risk identification and mitigation through DFMEA/PFMEA alignment, control plan development, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) definition.
-
Validate manufacturing processes through IQ/OQ/PQ, capability studies, and measurement system analysis (GR&R).
-
Establish and monitor launch quality metrics (FPY, DPPM, early field returns) and implement containment when required.
-
Partner cross-functionally with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Supplier Quality teams to ensure robust design-for-manufacturability and defect prevention.
-
Lead structured root cause analysis (8D, Ishikawa Diagram, 5-Why and others) for launch-related failures and ensure corrective actions are verified and sustained.
-
Ensure compliance to internal quality systems and drive lessons learned into future robotic programs.
-
Other duties as assigned.
What we need
-
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline is required.
-
Minimum of 5 years of quality engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing industry is preferred.
-
Proficient in quality management concepts, tools, and methods (APQP, FMEA, DOE, MSA, GRR, 8D, etc.).
-
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate findings into actionable business decisions.
-
Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the ability to identify critical control points.
-
Experience with Control Plans, FMEAs, and PPAP or equivalent part approval processes.
-
Familiarity with statistical process control software such as SAA, Minitab, and JMP, along with advanced Excel skills for data organization and analysis.
-
CQE and Six Sigma Black Belt preferred certification (must demonstrate deep core knowledge).
-
Certified or previously certified ISO 9001 or AS9100 auditor preferred.
Our Environment
-
Up to 30% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
