Recorded Future
Senior Manager, Engineering
Job Description
With 1,000+ intelligence professionals serving over 1,900 clients worldwide, Recorded Future is the world’s most advanced, and largest, intelligence company!
Recorded Future is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a diverse team of engineers building one of the world’s most comprehensive global internet scanning platforms. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will oversee multiple established teams and functions, including:
- Scan Engine Development – Our proprietary network scanning engine that operates on a global scale to collect intelligence insights from everything on the internet, supported by a cross-functional team of software engineers and operations specialists
- Vulnerability and Signature Research – Our team of vulnerability researchers working in coordination with internal intelligence functions to develop unique detections and signatures that power the scan engine
- Scan Operations and Site Reliability – Our team responsible for the operational health, scale, and reliability of the platform, ensuring intelligence is generated and delivered continuously to support teams and clients across the organization
What You'll Do:
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team of vulnerability researchers, scan operations engineers, and software engineers across multiple geographies, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive environment. Provide technical leadership by guiding development efforts, setting direction, and coaching engineers to grow their careers while maintaining a high engineering bar.
- Cross-Team Coordination: Partner closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and stakeholders across the broader organization — including teams from recently integrated business units — to align on scope, timelines, and solution designs that serve the full breadth of Recorded Future’s needs. Effectively communicate and advocate technical solutions to product, engineering, and business audiences.
- Engineering Excellence: Drive the continuous improvement of engineering practices, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and product quality. Ensure teams design, develop, and deploy features with a focus on high availability, quality, low latency, and scalability.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of product features and updates, ensuring alignment with company goals and timelines.
- Agile Practices: Implement and maintain agile methodologies for project tracking and documentation.
- AI-First Development: Champion an AI-first engineering culture across your teams, encouraging the adoption of AI tools, workflows, and practices in day-to-day development. You should be comfortable guiding your team in its application and aligned with Recorded Future’s broader commitment to AI-driven engineering.
What You'll Bring:
- At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, ideally in an Enterprise SaaS product.
- At least 4 years in a management or leadership role, ideally overseeing multiple functions with remote teams in different timezones.
- Meaningful hands-on software engineering experience, ideally including familiarity with languages such as Python, Go, or C. You don’t need to be actively coding day-to-day, but you should be able to engage credibly with engineers on technical decisions and hold the team to a high engineering bar.
- Background in or strong familiarity with low-level, network-heavy applications with a focus on high-volume traffic, availability, and global scale is highly desirable, despite this role being primarily managerial.
- Familiarity with key technologies such as message busses/queues (Kafka, Rabbit, etc.), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Extensive familiarity with the TCP/IP protocol stack, including application of concepts from DNS, WHOIS, and other artifacts needed for technical reconnaissance and discovery
- Comfort with AI development concepts and a genuine enthusiasm for guiding teams to incorporate AI into their workflows and understanding its practical applications in software development
- Experience in technical leadership such as leading project teams' development efforts and setting technical direction
- A passion for coaching others to grow their technology career and sharing good practices with more junior engineers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent education/work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Any familiarity with cybersecurity principles and the unique challenges of developing cybersecurity products
- Any familiarity with things like port scanning, vulnerability scanning, or signature development
- Any familiarity with enterprise security products related to Recorded Future’s offerings
