Software Engineer (Data Ingest)

About the Role:
As CloudZero continues to grow rapidly, we’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer (SWE II / Senior SWE I) to join one of our core product development teams. This team plays a critical role in ensuring CloudZero leads the way in ingesting and modeling cost data across a wide range of cloud services.

You’ll work on building and scaling integrations that bring third-party SaaS and PaaS cost data into our platform — including the “Big 3” (AWS, GCP, Azure) and others like Datadog, Databricks, New Relic, MongoDB, and Snowflake. Your work will directly support our differentiated cost data model, enabling customers to gain a unified and actionable view of their cloud spend.

Our product teams are lean and collaborative, typically made up of five engineers supported by a product manager, engineering manager, and designer. As a senior engineer, you’ll serve as a technical anchor — helping break down strategic objectives, guiding implementation, and driving the delivery of high-quality software that delights our users.

You Will

• Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems for our cloud platform
• Build features that can scale as we bring in customers with large and complex datasets
• Write readable code that is easy to test, maintain, and extend
• Participate in product discovery sessions to research and deeply understand real user problems, landing on the best way to solve them and decomposing the work for the team
• Actively mentor and set an example as a leader on the team, to expand the capabilities of your team members
• Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and product designers on your team to build features that solve real customer problems
• Help improve our engineering processes to ensure we have a team that can move fast and iterate quickly, giving everyone agency, ownership, and the ability to impact the broader success of the company

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience building APIs and complex backend systems in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Proficient in Python, our primary backend language.
• Experience at early- or growth-stage SaaS startups and comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
• Skilled in working with large-scale data systems and pipelines
• Strong understanding of design patterns, with a pragmatic approach to applying them in real-world systems.
