CMT manages an immense data pipeline that presents unique signal processing and artificial intelligence challenges:
- Data Modalities: Engineers work with rich, multi-modal sensor inputs including accelerometer, gyroscope, speed, and map data.
- Classification Problems: A primary technical challenge is distinguishing driver from passenger, and identifying transport types like cars, buses, trains, boats, or skiing based on the physics of movement.
- Scale of Data: The company stores over 100 petabytes of driving data, representing a distance equivalent to approximately a tenth of a lightyear.
- AI Foundation Models: CMT is currently building and pre-training its own proprietary AI foundation model from scratch, utilizing their massive database to predict crash detection and risk levels with unprecedented accuracy.
