What's it like to work at CMT.AI?
Employees at CMT.AI spend a lot of time thinking about how to get people home safe. Everyone works on one problem: making the world’s roads and drivers safer. Whether their focus is machine learning, mobile development, hardware, product, advocacy, or behavior change, they know their work could save someone’s life one day.
MIT researchers founded the company, and its first product launched in 2012. Today data scientists, machine learning engineers, mobile and backend developers, and hardware engineers build the AI, apps, and DriveWell Tag devices behind 150 programs that protect 75 million drivers and have helped prevent more than 138,000 crashes.
The headquarters sits at 314 Main Street in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, with offices in Budapest, Chennai, Seattle, Tokyo, and Zagreb.
What is the company culture like at CMT.AI?
Culture at CMT.AI starts with the mission: making the world’s roads and drivers safer. Employees care about getting people home safe, and they work on it together. Three values shape how teams operate. Simplicity means turning complex ideas into clear next steps. Collaboration means listening first, debating respectfully, and committing to a decision even when the idea wasn’t yours. Initiative means acting without waiting to be asked and putting progress over perfection.
The people are smart, kind, and collaborative, and they believe in the work. There’s room to learn new tools, processes, and skills, and schedules bend around real life, with unlimited PTO, Summer Fridays, and a flexible in-office schedule.
People recognize each other too. The monthly Values Prize honors one value at a time, the Spirit of CMT award goes out twice a year, and winners join an all-expenses-paid annual trip. Employee resource groups include Black, AAPI, LGBTQIA+, Women, Book Club, and Health & Wellness groups.
What is the work environment like at CMT.AI?
CMT.AI runs a hybrid model built around the Kendall Square headquarters in Cambridge. The 12th-floor office has views of the Charles River, collaborative spaces, focus pods, an IoT testing lab, and conference rooms named after famous roads around the world. Employees also get free snacks and drinks, catered lunches on set days, and a bike room with showers and lockers.
Most teams come in about three days a week. The company hosts events like board game nights and knowledge-sharing sessions that bring people from different teams together.
Day to day, teams work with trust, transparent communication, and high autonomy across mobile, backend, and data. Employees are encouraged to raise questions, concerns, and ideas, because communication works best when it runs both ways.
What are leadership and management like at CMT.AI?
CMT.AI asks every manager to act as a coach, a role model, and a multiplier. Coaches ask a question before they give advice. Role models set the climate for the team, because teams pick up a manager’s habits and values. Multipliers measure success by how well each person on the team performs, so they delegate and spend their time guiding and developing others.
Managers meet one-on-one with each direct report every week or every two weeks, and they keep shared notes both people can see. Those meetings focus on coaching, feedback, and career development, not status updates. Each month, managers share priorities in writing and out loud and tie every project back to company goals. Feedback runs both ways every week, with praise outnumbering criticism.
Managers build psychological safety by admitting their own mistakes, asking open questions, and listening before they offer a view.
What is career growth and development like at CMT.AI?
Learning happens on the job and through programs. CMT.AI runs a Career Advancement Program and mentorship across levels. After one year, US employees can get up to $3,600 a year in reimbursement for job-related courses, certifications, and degrees, and everyone can book unlimited one-on-one sessions with a professional coach through SkillCycle.
New hires get 30/60/90 day goals and check in with HR around day 30 and day 90. Managers hold regular one-on-ones that include career development, and performance reviews run mid-year and year-end with 360 feedback.
