Keith Cline, VentureFizz
Jess, thanks so much for joining us.
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Oh, thank you so much Keith for having me.
Keith Cline, VentureFizz
Yeah, I'm excited to talk to you because we're gonna talk about Duck Creek Technologies, which is a large company that is absolutely disrupting the insurance industry with your platform. So let's break that down. What is Duck Creek doing?
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Oh, thank you so much. It's a great question and one of my favorite to answer. So Duck Creek Technologies provides business-to-business software as a service specific to the insurance industry. And we typically serve general insurance or property and casualty insurers. The way you can think about that, because that was a lot of words is we help insurance carriers deliver their insurance products for customers, and we specialize in the property and casualty industry specifically.
Keith Cline, VentureFizz
So like, like, what would be examples of customers that you work with specifically, or maybe the use cases of using your platform?
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Absolutely. So a lot of the use cases that we encounter are an insurance carrier that actually wants to roll out a brand new product in North America. Although we are a global company in North America, typically what that means is that they are looking to release some new line of business across multiple states. So we cover everything. So you can think of any sort of insurance that you want to think of one of the more fun use cases that I like to think of, like you can go from yachts, or you can go to any sort of commercial property. So you can think of things like that. It's an easy use case. But one of the best use cases that people automatically recognize is you want to get insurance for your car, right or your house. Those are the typical ones that people see. And so our insurance carriers will have the look rolling out to new states, every single state has different regulations, they have different rules in terms of how you can interact with customers. And they also might have different buying preferences based on who you're trying to target for your demographic. So if you think about some of some people that are older, they have certain buying preferences that thought of something like embedded insurance, when they're buying a car and they're offered insurance might seem really foreign, however, you turn around and you will offer to that to some of the younger generation. They don't think that's weird at all. They think it's great, they think it's bundled. And so our carriers have to take all of these things in consideration depending on who their target market is also, depending on which states that they're going after, and also which lines of business they serve. And we are able to deliver all of that depending on what they are looking for, or across all of our products that we deliver to them to make that easy, so that they can understand which lines are performing the best. which products are doing the best, which target market is actually the ones I should be going after? And what are the buying preferences of the users and customers I'm trying to serve.
Keith Cline, VentureFizz
Duck Creek is growing. So talk about the current size of the company and the different functional areas that you're hiring for.
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Sure. So yeah, we're just shy of 2000. A lot of our employees work globally. So we have lots of employees across North America. But we also have lots of employees across the European market. And also in Asia Pacific, specifically located around Australia and India, we have a larger there. But the best part is that we are continuing to grow. We're constantly looking for product development folks looking for engineers looking for creatives that are in the UX space in terms of how do you solve some of these problems that I spoke about earlier and new and different ways that will land with the market, but also always looking for Product Management. And also we support all of our customers. So anyone who's ever worked sort of in a professional services space, or a partner in collaborative space, we're looking for those people as well. I think right now, some of the hotter skill sets on the market that we're always looking for is what's happening with Gen AI. What can we do with that? How is artificial intelligence and machine learning going to help underwriters in the insurance space? That's something that we talk about constantly. And something that I find super enticing technology, again, being always on the forefront of change. And then I think the other thing that's really great about Duck Creek is you heard me say that we have employees all over the place. But that's also because we support a very flexible workforce. And so a lot of our folks are working directly out of their homes. But we also get the benefit and privilege of going to some of our office locations and getting to meet and see with each other and having these really productive collaborative sessions
Keith Cline, VentureFizz
Well as an extension of that. What's it like working at Duck Creek? Like what's the day to day culture like?
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Yeah, well, as you know, Duck Creek is an incredible business and we didn't get here accidentally. So a lot of that is because we prioritize our culture. We really do want to understand our customers deeply, and how do we make them successful? And we do that by thinking about three really valuable things. How do we become and stay passionate insurance technologists, how do we simplify the complexity of insurance and how do we deliver speed to business value And all three of those can't be accomplished without really understanding what we focus on our core values. And our core values are prioritizing respect, listening, adding value wherever we can, caring, and leading. And those are because they allow us to partner with our customers really strongly. And again, we can't do that unless we have employees who are engaged and are doing the same way and their communications with each other. Because again, as insurance and technology experts, we're constantly evolving in the SAS business. And the best way that we can deliver the most value to our customers is putting an emphasis on partnering and collaboration, respecting and leading with value and caring about our people and our customers.
Keith Cline, VentureFizz
Now, top talent always has options, regardless of market conditions. So why should potential employees be considering Duck Creek as a potential option?
Jess Keeney, Duck Creek
Yeah, I mean, again, I think, if you haven't sort of heard what I've said about like, the the culture here is fantastic. We want to employ or we want to make sure that our employees are engaged. But the number one thing is, you know, we are growing booming business, we recently just went through being acquired by private equity, which again, shows you how much value and opportunity there is in this market for growth. And so we are going to continue having growth and continue to support and engage our employees. And again, the insurance space is constantly changing. And it is a strong market, even in despite sort of what's going on around the environment right now and the regulatory environment. And so I think, honestly, if you're looking for opportunity, and you want to come somewhere where you can learn and grow, and also truly be valued as an employee, while being able to work at the comfort of your own home, that creek is the place for you come on board.
