Zus Health
Solutions Engineer, Delivery & Automation
Job Description
Who we are
Zus is a shared health data platform designed to accelerate healthcare data interoperability by providing easy-to-use patient data via API, embedded components, and direct EHR integrations. Founded in 2021 by Jonathan Bush, co-founder and former CEO of athenahealth, Zus partners with HIEs and other data networks to aggregate patient clinical history and then translates that history into user-friendly information at the point of care. Zus’s mission is to catalyze healthcare’s greatest inventors by maximizing the value of patient insights – so that they can build up, not around.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a Solutions Engineer who gets energized by two things: solving gnarly technical problems and making customers wildly successful. You’ll be the technical quarterback for new customer onboardings. You’ll be translating their vision into working integrations, navigating the chaos of healthcare data standards, and ensuring they extract real value from day one.
This isn’t a paint-by-numbers implementation role. You’ll architect solutions, debug complex data flows, write scripts to automate repetitive work, and leverage AI tools to move faster than traditional implementation teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with a customer-first mindset. You’ll enjoy solving messy integration challenges, building automation that eliminates manual work, and partnering closely with Product and Engineering to continuously improve the platform.
Key responsibilities:
Own the technical journey
- Lead end-to-end onboarding for new customers—from authentication setup to data mart configuration
- Integrate customer systems with Zus (APIs, SFTP, HL7, FHIR—the whole interoperability stack)
- Translate messy business requirements into clean technical architectures
- Build and maintain automated workflows that make implementations faster and more reliable
Drive customer success through technical excellence
- Be the trusted technical advisor customers call when things get complicated
- Run technical deep dives and implementation reviews that actually move the needle
- Identify integration risks before they become blockers and solve them proactively
- Train customers on best practices so they become power users, not support tickets
Innovate on process
- Use AI tools (LLMs, automation platforms, scripting) to eliminate manual work and scale your impact
- Build templates, scripts, and tooling that make the 10th implementation faster than the 1st
- Document learnings and create repeatable playbooks through automation that make the whole team better
Collaborate with R&D
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to surface integration challenges and opportunities for platform improvement
- Translate real-world customer integration patterns into product feedback and roadmap insights
- Collaborate with R&D teams on emerging capabilities around AI, data pipelines, and developer tooling
- Act as the voice of the customer when identifying opportunities to improve developer experience and reduce integration friction
You’re a good fit because you have
- 5-7+ years doing hands-on technical implementation, solutions engineering, or systems integration (healthtech/SaaS preferred)
- Deep familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, CCD) and major EMRs (Epic, Cerner, athenahealth)
- Strong API and data pipeline experience (ETL, REST APIs, JSON, CSV ingestion)
- Comfort with data platforms (Snowflake, SQL databases) including schema design and query optimization
- Python scripting skills and SQL fluency—you can wrangle data and automate workflows
- Understanding of secure environments and compliance (HIPAA, SOC2)
- You’ve managed real customer relationships and know how to balance technical rigor with business outcomes
- Excellent at translating technical complexity into clear communication for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong project management instincts—you see around corners and keep implementations on track
- You can influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
- Bias toward action—you ship solutions, not excuses
- Excited by ambiguity and unstructured problems (not paralyzed by them)
- Hungry to use AI and automation to work smarter, not just harder
- Passionate about fixing healthcare’s broken infrastructure
- Comfortable with up to 25% travel for customer engagements and company events
This roles includes a base salary and incentive compensation. While we’re a remote first company, this role will require some travel for to events, conferences, customer meetings and internal company meetings.
We will offer you…
• Competitive compensation that reflects the value you bring to the team a combination of cash and equity
• Robust benefits that include health insurance, wellness benefits, 401k with a match, unlimited PTO
• Opportunity to work alongside a passionate team that is determined to help change the world (and have fun doing it)
Please Note: Research shows that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds often don’t apply unless they meet 100% of the job criteria. While we have worked to consolidate the minimum qualifications for each role, we aren’t looking for someone who checks each box on a page; we’re looking for active learners and people who care about disrupting the current healthcare system with their unique experiences.
We do not conduct interviews by text nor will we send you a job offer unless you’ve interviewed with multiple people, including the Director of People & Talent, over video interviews. Job scams do exist so please be careful with your personal information.
