The Senior Director, Operations (SYM-Greenbox) is a strategic and results-driven leader responsible for scaling performance across multiple high-profile customer distribution sites. This executive-level role oversees operational excellence, service delivery, automation deployment, and the development of high-performing teams, while fostering deep, trust-based partnerships with both internal stakeholders and external clients. The Senior Director Operation is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of managing complex, fast-paced, and technology-enabled operations. They bring a strong blend of visionary leadership and hands-on execution, with a relentless focus on customer satisfaction, cross-site alignment, and delivering world-class performance across our distribution network.

What we do

The Senior Director, Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization which is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. The Customer Operations organization drives operational excellence by engaging and partnering with our onsite customers to drive best-in-class quality, safety and system performance.

What you'll do

  • Provide executive leadership over multiple warehouse and customer site operations, ensuring strategic alignment with overall business objectives and delivering exceptional service to enterprise clients.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) to validate capacity plans and ensure operational scalability across a growing distribution network.

  • Own and drive performance against enterprise-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), using data-driven insights to develop action plans, lead continuous improvement efforts, and ensure operational excellence.

  • Build and maintain strategic, long-term relationships with senior customer stakeholders, ensuring transparency, alignment on priorities, and consistent delivery of contractual and service expectations.

  • Translate customer feedback and operational insights into large-scale process enhancements and innovation initiatives. Collaborate cross-functionally to drive root-cause resolution and systemic improvements.

  • Oversee strategic workforce planning across all sites, including staffing models, talent acquisition, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development.

  • Direct the implementation of standardized operational policies, safety protocols, and compliance procedures to ensure consistent execution across locations.

  • Lead high-impact projects focused on scaling automation, introducing digital warehousing solutions, and optimizing the integration of advanced technologies into daily operations.

  • Manage multi-site project timelines, resources, and budgets. Align with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of initiatives that enhance operational capabilities and customer satisfaction.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working with automated systems, material handling, robotics, or digital warehouse technologies is highly desirable.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading multi-site operations and managing large, cross-functional teams in high-growth or high-complexity environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative, agile, and innovation-driven operational culture across diverse teams and geographic locations.

  • Strong leadership presence with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Deep experience in strategic workforce planning, project management, and operational budget oversight.

  • Proficient in analyzing large sets of operational data, identifying trends, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and risk mitigation practices across warehouse or distribution center environments.

Our Environment

  • Remote, field-based position.

  • Travel is required 50% to 75% of the time. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

  • The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.

  • The employee is routinely required to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.

  • Approximately 75% of time will be spent on a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness).

  • There will be steep stairs to climb into the structure You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure.

  • You will regularly be near railings that are high off the ground.

  • Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
