What we need

We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Build Technician to join our Fixtures & Prototypes within the System Test organization. You will support our engineers and machinists in bringing parts, fixtures, and assemblies from concept to completion. In this role, you’ll help operate machines to produce parts from drawings and CAD models, collaborate with engineers to optimize designs and throughput, and assist with building and modifying fixtures. You’ll also perform light design work, support wiring projects with our EE and Controls groups, and take ownership of maintaining shop equipment and machine schedules. This is a dynamic position that blends machining, assembly, design, and maintenance work—perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working closely with engineers to keep projects moving forward.

What we do

The Fixtures & Prototypes team owns the design, fabrication, integration and testing of automated fixtures and tools to support R&D and test engineering initiatives. This involves close collaboration with System and Product Test Engineers to define fixture requirements and brainstorm design concepts.

What you’ll do

  • Operate machines to create parts from design drawings, CAD models, sketches and oral instructions.

  • Work with Engineers to optimize part delivery and builds.

  • Assemble/build fixtures and/or assemblies with guidance from Engineers.

  • Work closely with Engineers and use CAD to modify designs to help streamline part delivery and optimize throughput.

  • Perform some design work to aid in the build in fixtures and repairs/altercations of fixtures

  • Support Electrical Engineering and Controls groups to preform wiring of projects

  • Maintain the machine shop and perform scheduled machine maintenance

What you’ll need

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technician with an intuitive mechanical background.

  • High school or vocational technical school diploma required. Associate’s or BS in technical discipline preferred.

  • Experience with electromechanical products, robotics, or automation is desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to be very hands-on. This is a “roll-up-your-sleeves” position.

  • Skilled in mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, and instrumentation.

  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is desired.

  • Must have experience using mills, lathes at a minimum with welding knowledge being a plus.

  • Familiarity with Prototrack software/machines a plus

  • Familiar with computer MS; Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Must have great communication skills and work with a dynamic internal customer base

  • Able to adapt to rapid changes in priority

  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

Our environment

  • Up to 10% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

  • There may be times where you will need to stair climb into the structure. You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure.   

  • Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 55° to 100° Fahrenheit.  

  • At times you may be at a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness). 

  • Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 50lbs and move items weighing up to 80lbs. 

  • Stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours and is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.  

  • This job may require working at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. Where you may need to be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

  • Must be capable of occasional and/or continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet. Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols
