The typical starting salary range for this role ($133,000 – $155,000) is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Locations:

New York: occasional travel into Manhattan location

Washington DC: occasional travel into Capitol Hill location

Boston: hybrid work schedule of 2 days per week in office

We are seeking a Senior Consultant of Issues Management & Corporate Reputation Communications that will play a key role on the company’s public relations team and report to the Senior Director of Issues Management & Corporate Reputation Communications. This position will be responsible for providing robust execution support and guidance on the company’s proactive and reactive external communications efforts around issues/crisis management and corporate reputation. This role resides in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and will help further position and protect the company in the marketplace.

You will:

  • Support the Senior Director in stewarding the company’s enterprise Issues Management Program, identifying and monitoring horizon risks with the potential to impact reputation.
  • Collaborate and work closely with executive leaders across the business units and enterprise functions on issue preparedness workstreams and lead the development of communications strategy in these situations.
  • Conduct research into issue topics, analyzing internal and external inputs including policy, opinion leader commentary, industry viewpoints and employee feedback, and create issue briefs that inform decision making.
  • Serve as a key liaison and collaborator with other company risk management workstreams, including government relations, business continuity and enterprise / business unit emerging risk teams.
  • Support the Senior Director in crisis response situations, including development of crisis response strategy and communications assets including message frameworks, media statements, leader talking points, etc.
  • Engage directly with media around issues/crisis management and support and counsel on the creation of all corresponding materials, including statements, press releases, talking points, strategy memos and media training elements.
  • Participate in regular benchmarking and continuous improvement of issues and crisis processes.
  • Collaborate with and assist in managing agency partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Communications or related field).
  • A minimum 10 years relevant communications experience, preferably in issues/crisis management or corporate reputation in a corporate or agency environment.
  • A proven self-starter with the ability to work autonomously within a complex, matrixed organization.
  • A sense of urgency and experience working in fast-paced, business-critical situations.
  • Experience in managing and handling direct interactions with a broad range of media and other external stakeholders. An engaged consumer of all types of media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in GenAI communications tools.
  • Executive presence and a strong ability to build internal networks, carry out a strategic plan and counsel partners in a thorough, thoughtful manner.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, with an understanding of the policy landscape.
  • A sense of curiosity.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
