Description

The Company

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) manages Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s (LMIG) global financial assets across global markets and private domains to build capital and generate income. With over $100 billion in assets under management (AUM) and a team of nearly 300 investment, finance, and operations professionals located in Boston, MA, and New York, NY, LMI offers the best of both worlds — the look and feel of a boutique investment firm with the reputation and financial strength of a global leader.

LMI has been on a transformation path to spur innovation, capitalize on deep expertise, and scale its returns on long-term flexible capital through a “one firm, one portfolio, one team” mindset. Our operating model is built on three pillars: centralized portfolio construction, asset management, and investment-enabling services. The teams are structured as Investment Business Units (IBUs) working in concert: Global Strategy & Capital Allocation, Risk Management, Global Credit Markets, Global Alternative Markets, Global Liquid Markets, and Global Investment Solutions. Our portfolio spans a broad spectrum of public and private asset classes, and we are committed to expanding our capabilities and our toolkit in furtherance of our mission.

The Position

Liberty Mutual Investments is looking for a Product Owner with a focus on Financial Insights & Analysis.

Operating at the intersection of finance and investment teams, vendors, and engineering, you will harness Agile practices to define and prioritize the product backlog, set acceptance standards, and deliver business value. This role involves continuous collaboration with stakeholders (business and technology), including senior leadership, to ensure alignment with both strategic objectives and customer needs.

Note: This Boston-based role will have a hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days/week).

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to shape the vision for the Financial Insights & Analysis product, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and finance & investment objectives
  • Communicate the product and portfolio vision to squads/teams and relevant groups across the organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into product requirements
  • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring clear, actionable user stories that align with customer and business value
  • Prioritize features so the squad/team remains focused on the most critical and impactful work
  • Work daily with finance and investment teams, technology groups, and external vendors to clarify requirements, remove roadblocks, and maintain alignment on product goals
  • Set expectations with stakeholders regarding new capabilities, features, and functionality
  • Act as a primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding product updates and enhancements
  • Actively participate in planning sessions, demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies
  • Collaborate with senior Product Owners and leadership to align on cross-portfolio planning and priorities
  • Develop and track product-level KPIs, ensuring they support defined outcomes and strategic targets
  • Monitor product viability, balancing short-term and long-term considerations (including cost, compliance, and regulatory constraints)
  • Analyze feasibility, cost-of-delay, and other factors to inform prioritization and decision-making
  • Understand and incorporate relevant regulatory, compliance, and industry requirements into backlog priorities and requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (finance, business, computer science, or a related field).
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of direct experience with agile teams as well as 5 years in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Experience in Asset Management preferred (with emphasis on Financial Reporting or other Portfolio Analysis needs).
  • Experience working with internally built and vendor platforms (such as Simcorp Dimension’s Data Warehouse), collaborating with globally dispersed teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and facilitate meetings with team members and business partners across an organization.
  • Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress.
  • Able to make difficult and quick decisions daily.
