The President of the Liberty Mutual Foundation (LMF) is a key leader within the Liberty Mutual Office of Community Investments & Sustainability team, reporting to the Chief Community Investments & Sustainability Officer. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving the Foundation’s strategic vision and philanthropic impact. The President is responsible for providing strategic oversight of grantmaking initiatives, developing and implementing strategies that advance security and resilience for vulnerable populations, and managing the Foundation’s financial stewardship to maximize charitable impact. Additionally, the President cultivates strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations and community leaders, ensuring collaborative efforts align with Liberty Mutual’s corporate values and mission.

Beyond internal leadership, the President enhances the Foundation’s visibility and reputation through strategic communication, thought leadership, and active representation at industry events. By doing so, the President helps create lasting, positive change in the communities Liberty Mutual serves, reflecting the company’s enduring commitment to fostering opportunity, security, and well-being for all.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the LMF to ensure the effective fulfillment of its mission and maximize the impact of its initiatives through responsible stewardship of resources, partnerships, and programs.

  • Grantmaking Leadership: Lead the LMF portfolio and grants team in executing strategies and implementation plans for the impactful distribution of foundation grants through nonprofit grant proposals aligned with LMF funding guidelines. Work closely with Liberty Investments, Legal, Tax and Public Policy to ensure appropriate stewardship of the Foundation. Ensure the effective stewardship of all grants, processes and systems for grantmaking. Responsible for final sign-off and approval for all grants.

  • Partner Engagement: Oversee the development of outreach initiatives to nonprofit partners, facilitating events designed to raise awareness of Liberty’s commitment to community service and fostering collaboration among grantee partners.

  • Board and Executive Interaction: Report to the Foundation Board and Board of Directors to share strategy, activities and impacts. Oversee executive and Board site visits.

  • Communications and Public Relations: Collaborate with the communications team to create reports, videos, press releases, and other internal and external communication materials that document and promote Liberty’s philanthropic efforts.

  • Philanthropic Thought Leadership: Pursue opportunities to serve as a thought leader in philanthropy, engaging within and beyond the philanthropic sector to share insights and drive meaningful discussions.

  • Representation and Advocacy: Represent Liberty’s charitable initiatives at public presentations, key external meetings, and industry conferences, earn and accept awards on behalf of the company.

  • Team Development: Build and foster an inclusive, high-performing team dedicated to continuous learning and developing expertise in the philanthropic landscape.

  • Cross Departmental Collaboration: Effectively communicate with various internal departments regarding philanthropy-related inquiries and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in corporate or foundation giving required.

  • Proven experience in leading Community Investments initiatives including grantmaking program management and community involvement is required.

  • Advanced knowledge of philanthropy and deep understanding of foundation mission/initiatives required.

  • Must be detail oriented and can navigate various corporate/nonprofit cultures deftly.

  • Ability to influence and effectively communicate with internal and external executives as required. Strong communication and presentation skills required, ability to give presentations of high complexity.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
