The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

The USRM Auto Product and Delivery team is currently hiring for the Director of External Solutions and Insights role.

This role will play a pivotal part in driving and enabling the success across our Auto Product organization. Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining market leading products, capabilities, and product-related experiences. In addition, we are accountable for developing, evolving, and driving our line of business strategy for core lines of business. We partner with key leaders across the organization to execute on strategy initiatives and deliver on our financial goals.

This people leader position will lead the External Solutions and Insights team and be responsible for 6-8 individual contributors. The team of individuals has responsibilities to manage and maximize our use of third-party data vendor products and develop deep insights into our competitors.

This leader is accountable for the health of the overall ecosystem of third-party data, for leading work to determine how we can leverage external products to maximize value and drive desired business outcomes, and for delivering depth of understanding on our competitors. This leader must proactively understand the business challenges and opportunities based on knowledge of our Auto products as well as vendor products and monitoring of the market. These roles will require strong stakeholder management as they are both an external facing role with our vendor partners and will require a close connection to internal stakeholder teams.

Manages a team of highly analytic and experienced individual contributors and product analysis managers. Manages complex, large-scale, and highly specialized projects that impact product development, pricing strategy, and underwriting within the Product Management department. Provides strategic and tactical direction for product segments countrywide. Proposes tactical underwriting and pricing strategies, sets plans and benchmarks for the organization and evaluates product performance to drive state and/or countrywide profitable growth. Evaluates business processes, recommends efficiencies and improvements and implements changes. Manages complex data gathering, reporting and analysis. Presents work to Product SVPs and Chief Product Officer.

  • Manages a team conducting all levels of product analysis under varying levels of supervision and direction.
  • Provides Directors of State Operations support on the development of state strategies and through focusing analyst resources on value-added analysis.
  • Identifies the need for and drives the development of new tools and processes within the department.
  • Leads on-going monitoring of key metrics and programs to drive key metrics (such as new-to-renewal, retention, etc.) and owns key countrywide processes (such as systems prioritization and planning).
  • Focuses analyst resources on value-added analysis. Includes comparative rater data, competitive filings, etc.
  • Directs Product Analysts on competitive research activities. Directs Product Analysts in the review of industry publications and news articles.
  • Provides summaries of industry and competitive information to State Management, Product leadership, Chief Product Officer and other Sr. leadership.
  • Utilizes research to determine tactical and occasionally strategic direction for assigned lines of business or distribution channels.
  • May lead the implementation of highly complex multi-state projects utilizing vendor products and services.
  • May direct senior Product Analysts in the development of tools needed to quantify the impacts of vendor products and assess where, when, and how to adapt the countrywide program to meet local markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field.
  • Minimum 7 years, typically 10 year relevant work experiences.
  • Master’s degree beneficial.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (e.g., SAS, Access).
  • Must have good planning, organizational, analytical, decision-making and communication skills.
  • Experience directly managing others required.
  • Excellent analytic, quantitative and problem solving skills with proven ability to make and execute data driven decisions.
  • Expert knowledge of product offerings, business processes, product line systems, underwriting rules, pricing plans and databases.
  • Expert understanding of insurance concepts and financial metrics.
