The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Liberty Mutual is searching for a Director, Engineering for the Global Risk Solutions Policy Servicing Portfolio.

Global Risk Solutions is a $23B+ Strategic Business Unit within Liberty Mutual that sells and services commercial property and casualty, specialty, reinsurance, surety products in 25+ countries around the world. This leader will be responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of multi-year roadmaps of investments in digital products that enhance and transform the Policy Servicing ecosystem. Responsibilities also include ongoing maintenance of the ecosystem of capabilities that support Policy Booking, Policy Financials, and Downstream Orchestration, for all Global Risk Solutions business segments and products. As a member of the Underwriting&Policy Tech Leadership Team, this leader will also help to set vision and strategy for the Domain, and partner across all other Underwriting & Policy Portfolios.

About The Role

  • Set the culture and environment of the department, centered on trust and psychological safety, live the culture through clear and consistent messaging and interaction.
  • Create harmony across the broader organization, through gaining alignment among broad group of stakeholders, partners and peers, while also building confidence in technology with stakeholder group.
  • Coach, guide, and mentor both direct and matrixed team members, including objective session and delivering meaningful feedback throughout the cycle, catered to the individual.
  • Ensure the department has the right resourcing mix of Employees, Contractors, Experience, Disciplines (balancing current and future technical skill needs) with the right objectives and measures.
  • Ensures application or portfolio of platforms are enhanced and maintained to meet business functional need. In partnership with Product Owner, identifies key performance indicators to measure success of work product.
  • Understands the business domain and product vision; in partnership with other team members (Scrum Master, Architect, Product Owner, etc.) aligns work of the team toward the shared goals for the product.
  • Guide planning and execution of multiple, integrated roadmaps, that equip the organization with the capabilities needed to achieve its objectives.
  • Prepare and deliver Executive Leadership communication including accomplishments, plans, financials, strategic, and tactical direction.
  • Be an advocate for, and shape, both technical and business direction with respect to products, services, process, and outcomes.
  • Bring cross-Liberty Mutual, and industry perspective with respect to both insurance and technology, to elevate both what is delivered and how it is delivered.
  • Practice continuous improvement, learning, and inspire innovation.
  • May establish financial plan for the application, portfolio or overall unit and manages to plan.
  • May lead efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance applications or platforms.
  • Coordinates with vendors to ensure talent management, on-boarding and transition are performed in a consistent manner.
  • Participates in the development of business and/or technology vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Generally, more than 10 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities. In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques. Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
  • Experience in leading large, cross-functional technical teams on a global scale is required.
