The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

This position offers a hybrid work structure out of our Boston office, 2 days in office, 3 days from home.

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a skilled Benefits Consultant to provide technical and consultative support within our Benefits department. If you possess a strong background in benefits program management and are adept at leading projects to enhance employee benefits programs, this position may be right for you. You will play a crucial role in managing benefit programs, vendors and projects, ensuring they meet defined objectives, and providing insights that enhance our overall benefits and well-being strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with external benefit vendors and service providers, including contract negotiation, performance evaluation, and ongoing communications.
  • Establish and maintain management status reports for benefits programs and projects, effectively communicating objectives, scope, direction, and status to teams and stakeholders.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to benefits programs, services, and processes. Work independently and provide guidance to leaders, team members regarding benefits programs and policies.
  • Manage the implementation of assigned benefits projects, executing project plans to achieve defined objectives and deliver outcomes that exceed expectations.
  • Oversee acceptance testing for benefits projects, developing test plans and coordinating testing activities to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Prepare recommendations, presentations, and communications on assigned projects, aligning them with overall departmental initiatives and needs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements by developing, reviewing, and maintaining Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and other necessary documentation for assigned benefit programs, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training; 5-7 years of progressive experience in benefits management, with strong knowledge of health, welfare, and retirement programs; certification (CEBS, CBP, or SHRM) preferred.
  • Strong project management skills and solid experience in leading project-based work
  • Strong written communication skills especially in developing benefits-related communications
  • Experience with and understanding of a variety of technical regulations and laws (e.g.; ERISA; COBRA; statutory requirements, etc.)
  • CEBS designation helpful
