Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Advanced Power BI Developer who will not only

lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of Power BI content but

also serve as a key resource for user enablement and training. This position

requires expert knowledge of the Power BI ecosystem, including data modeling,

DAX, Power Query (M), and integration with Azure services, alongside the

ability to empower and mentor other developers and business users to maximize

their use of Power BI tools and best practices.

You will partner with internal process owners and users to understand business objectives, pain

points and design product requirements. You will also collaborate with

engineering teams to build capabilities that best leverage the right technology

to meet business objectives and deliver value. This role will be responsible

for simplification of our Power BI solutions and footprint by matching the

right personas with the appropriate tools/solutions.

This role has a hybrid work schedule

(2 days onsite) for candidates in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX or

Seattle, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help users to design, develop, and maintain advanced Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models to deliver actionable business insights.
  • Optimize existing Power BI solutions for performance, scalability, and usability and lead optimization workshops for users.
  • Implement and enforce best practices around Power BI development, including data modeling, DAX optimization, and Power Query transformations.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective Power BI solutions.
  • Lead user enablement initiatives by creating comprehensive training materials, documentation, and workshops tailored to developers and end-users.
  • Provide hands-on training and mentorship to internal teams on Power BI development, administration, and deployment processes.
  • Support governance and security standards within Power BI Service, including workspace management, dataset refresh schedules, and role-based access.
  • Stay current with Power BI features, updates, and industry trends to continuously improve BI capabilities and adoption.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in Power BI development and administration.
  • Expert knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for complex calculations and measures.
  • Strong proficiency in Power Query (M language) for data transformation and ETL processes.
  • Experience in data modeling, including star schema and snowflake schema design.
  • Familiarity with Power BI Service features such as workspaces, dataflows, paginated reports, data refresh, and gateway management.
  • Hands-on experience integrating Power BI with Azure Data Services (Azure SQL Database, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Factory) is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of SQL for querying relational databases.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or R for advanced analytics or custom visuals.
  • Experience in BI governance, security, and deployment pipelines (Power BI Deployment Pipelines, ALM).
  • Demonstrated ability to create training programs, workshops, and enablement sessions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Power BI and related certification(s) (e.g., PL-300, PL-900, DP-500).
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Copilot features and development.
  • Experience working with version control such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
  • Exposure to advanced analytics, AI integration, or custom visual development in Power BI.
  • Familiarity with other BI tools (Tableau, Qlik) for comparative advantage.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Experience in communicating recommendations to senior business leaders preferred
  • BA/BS, or relevant work experience, in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative discipline strongly preferred
  • 5-7+ years of experience working in coding and data solutions design principles, particularly in open source tools and technology

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
