Job Description

About the Role

As we scale, we are looking for a Senior Product Manager with a strong chemistry background to develop innovative tools that help researchers efficiently find, evaluate, and acquire the right materials to advance their work. If you have a passion for both science and technology, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of life sciences R&D.

In this role, you will lead the development of scientific search, browse, comparison, and selection tools within the Labviva platform. Your work will ensure that researchers can efficiently discover the right reagents, instruments, and consumables by leveraging advanced search technologies, structured ontologies, and an understanding of scientific workflows.

This role requires deep domain expertise in chemistry and a strong grasp of the R&D process to bridge the gap between scientific needs and technical solutions. You will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, UX designers, and subject matter experts to refine our search algorithms, metadata structures, and taxonomy.

This role is based out of our corporate headquarters office in Boston. We are a flexible hybrid environment with 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the office. Please note that we are only accepting candidates that reside in the greater Boston area.

How You Will Contribute

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Define and drive the product roadmap for cheminformatics capabilities, aligned with company strategy and customer needs.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on chemical data modeling, molecule-based search, reaction prediction, and structure normalization.
  • Identify industry trends, customer pain points, and market opportunities to influence product direction.

Execution & Delivery

  • Translate customer needs and technical insights into clear, actionable product requirements and user stories.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to scope, prioritize, and deliver high-impact features on schedule.
  • Lead product development cycles from ideation through launch and post-launch iteration.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with end users (e.g., medicinal chemists, researchers, R&D leaders) to validate problems, test solutions, and ensure usability.
  • Work with sales, customer success, and marketing teams to support go-to-market efforts and customer onboarding.
  • Present product updates and performance metrics to leadership and key stakeholders.

Data & UX Focus

  • Ensure integration and effective use of cheminformatics data sources, ontologies, and computational chemistry models.
  • Champion intuitive, scientist-friendly interfaces for interacting with complex chemical data and predictions.

What You Bring to the Team

  • 5+ years in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, scientific software, or a related domain.
  • Deep understanding of cheminformatics concepts such as:
    • Molecular representations (SMILES, InChI, fingerprints)
    • Substructure and similarity searching
    • Compound libraries and chemical registries
    • Reaction informatics and property prediction
  • Familiarity with cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, Open Babel, ChemAxon) and scientific workflows.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific requirements into scalable software products.
  • Experience building platforms used in pharmaceutical R&D, biotech, or materials science.
  • Prior hands-on coding or technical background working with APIs, data pipelines, or AI/ML models in chemistry is a plus.
