Job Description

About the Role

As we expand our data platform, we are looking for a Senior Bioinformatics Engineer with cross-disciplinary strengths in cheminformatics to help us scale our scientific data infrastructure and power smarter product discovery, categorization, and analysis.

You will join a growing team focused on enriching and connecting structured and unstructured data from scientific publications, product catalogs, and biomedical databases. This role combines deep bioinformatics expertise with the ability to process and leverage chemical data, supporting Labviva’s mission to create context-aware tools for researchers and procurement professionals.

What You'll Do

  • Design and maintain scalable pipelines for parsing, transforming, and annotating biological and chemical data (e.g., genomics, proteomics, compound metadata).Build and integrate tools that connect scientific product metadata with biological functions and molecular structure data.
  • Apply bioinformatics methods to map reagents, assays, and other research products to relevant pathways, targets, or omics signatures.
  • Normalize, curate, and classify molecular and compound data using cheminformatics libraries and public repositories (e.g., PubChem, ChEMBL, UniProt, Ensembl).
  • Work closely with engineers, data scientists, and domain experts to surface insights in our marketplace using semantic search, knowledge graphs, and enrichment algorithms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Science teams to refine data taxonomies and ontology-driven models.
  • Contribute to Labviva’s scientific data strategy and technical roadmap.

What You’ll Bring

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience working with biological data, particularly omics data formats (e.g., FASTQ, VCF, GTF).
  • Proficiency in Python (preferred) and JS, with familiarity using libraries such as Biopython, Pandas, or RDKit.
  • Experience working with chemical structures, SMILES/InChI notations, and property prediction tools.
  • Understanding of molecular biology, genomics, and small molecule data integration.
  • Comfort working with scientific databases, APIs, and cloud-native tools (e.g., AWS, Docker).
  • Bonus: experience with semantic technologies (e.g., ontologies, linked data, graph databases) or NLP applied to scientific literature.
