Duties: Design and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical systems using mechanical engineering intuition, training, and acquired skills particular to the field. Implement knowledge of manufacturing techniques to design mass manufacturable components and assemblies. Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to the success of the work of other mechanical engineers and subject individual work to the scrutiny of others. Follow the company’s documented 3D CAD Best Practices to ensure that 3D CAD models are suitable for use in a collaborative engineering environment. Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations using the company’s simulation software tools. Make predictive forecasts on product performance using mechanical engineering intuition, training, and acquired skills particular to the field. Perform testing to validate engineering analysis and assumptions using the company’s prototyping and testing equipment and facilities. Use the best engineering judgment to create designs that meet or exceed performance requirements by comparing test results against documented product specifications. Participate in the company’s Intellectual Property proceedings in collaboration with the company’s legal and Intellectual Property teams. Organize and prioritize engineering workload using Asana, JIRA, and other program management tools. Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) from the company’s CAD systems. Collaborate with the company’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to identify suitable vendors and incorporate. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) feedback to improve component and assembly level designs. Maintain digital drawings at the correct revision level. Provide troubleshooting support to the company’s contracted manufacturing lines. Address Incoming Quality Control (IQC) issues in a timely manner to maintain production schedules. 10% travel required to support prototype builds and product transition to manufacturing, customer, or product research.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study and four years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. Must have four years of experience in each of the following skills: designing, assembling, testing, and evaluating the performance of 3D printers; using CAD to design parts, assemble and create engineering drawings; incorporating thermal systems, optical systems, sensor design, controllers and control algorithms into system design; creating high-volume and high performance products using a variety of manufacturing methods; prototyping designs and testing independently and collaboratively; fabricating mechanical components and integrating with electronics and software to control and measure system performance; and maintaining accurate design documentation with PLM and PDM systems.
