CloudZero
Engineering Co-Op (Spring) – Kubernetes Team
Job Description
About the Role:
CloudZero is seeking an Engineering Co-op to join Team Cirrus, the group responsible for building and evolving CloudZero’s Kubernetes cost insights capabilities. This includes collecting and processing data from customer Kubernetes clusters, delivering that data to our platform, and making it visible and actionable for users. With Kubernetes adoption among our customers increasing towards 100%, this area of the product is both essential and fast-evolving.
This co-op role is designed to provide real-world software engineering experience by embedding you directly within a high-impact team. You’ll contribute to production systems, work alongside experienced engineers, and play a key role in solving meaningful engineering challenges.
Location: Boston, MA (In-office 3+ days/week)
Duration: January–June 2026 (Spring semester)
If you’re curious about large-scale container data systems, excited to work in a cloud-native environment, and eager to learn from an experienced and supportive team, this opportunity is for you.
What You’ll Do:
-
Build and enhance features that help customers understand Kubernetes spend and performance
-
Own a scoped technical project for the first ~3 months of your co-op and see it through from design to delivery
-
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and your mentor on solutions that ship to real customers
-
Participate in team rituals like standups, planning, retros, and demos
-
Contribute to internal improvements – from monitoring and testing, to documentation and automation
-
Transition into the team’s day-to-day engineering work for the second half of your co-op
What You’ll Have:
-
A 2nd or 3rd year Computer Science undergraduate student (Spring 2026 Grad)
-
Solid foundation in programming fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.)
-
Exposure to backend languages like Python or Go (schoolwork or personal projects is great!)
-
Comfortable in a Linux-based development environment and using git
-
Excited to work on real-world systems and contribute to team outcomes
-
Curious, collaborative, and eager to learn – you ask questions and take ownership
What You’ll Learn:
This is not a throwaway or shadowing role. Your work will ship to production, impact real customers, and matter to the team. You’ll be supported by a dedicated manager, an assigned mentor, and a culture that values pairing, feedback, and experimentation.
-
How modern cloud-native systems operate at scale using technologies like AWS Lambda, Step Functions, Kubernetes, and Snowflake
-
How to write production-ready code and deploy it safely to real systems
-
How cross-functional product teams collaborate to deliver customer-facing value
-
What it’s like to work in a professional engineering environment – from code review to incident response to celebrating a feature launch
-
A strong understanding of how production systems are built and operated
-
Experience working in a real engineering team on an active product
-
A project you can confidently talk about in future interviews (with real technical depth)
Please note: CloudZero is unable to sponsor employment visas. Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
