Chewy is seeking a Frontend Software Engineer II for the Payments Engineering team
Team Overview:
The Payments engineering team is seeking a motivated Frontend Software Engineer II (React) in Boston, MA. Our mission is to provide pet parents and partners with the most trusted, accessible, and convenient payment experience. Your Role:
As a Software Engineer in our Payments Engineering team, you will be architecting and building scalable user experiences. You will take end-to-end ownership of new features that will directly impact millions of customers who care for their furry family members every day. You will help drive innovation, scalability and maintainability while partnering with other highly skilled engineering teams.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, develop and implement large scale distributed systems with large volumes of data focusing on scalability, latency and fault tolerance.
- Build, deploy and scale frontend Payments Single Page Applications
- Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to team and partners, and act as technical point of contact to Team Members
- Develop Systems / Component architectures and APIs for a rapidly scaling platform, while ensuring successful product delivery and operational perfection.
- Pursue engineering excellence, leading platform level initiatives such as Kubernetes migration, building true CI/CD pipelines and redefining our applications into a true Payments as a Service implementation
- Own and operationalize the important metrics for Payments, building industry leading telemetry/logging to ascertain the state and health for the applications you own
- Lead research and PoC initiatives for cloud native designs and implementation within public clouds, primarily AWS.
- Adhere to enterprise architecture and coding standards (scalable, performant, readable, and tested code) and ensure your code reviews set the bar for the rest of the team
- Display excellent verbal and written communication and be able to convey dissenting opinions in a constructive manner, particularly written communications
- Provide mentorship and guidance for peers and more junior engineers
- Establish strong working relationships across functional teams
What You’ll Need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of professional front-end development experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing scalable, high-performing, and fault-tolerant applications for large enterprises
- 2+ years of experience developing large-scale products using frontend technologies using React/JavaScript/ES6/Typescript/CSS
- 2+ years of software engineering experience with Java or other Object-Oriented Programming languages
- 2+ years of experience in the Payments domain, with a good understanding of payment processing, wallet management and integrating with 3rd party payment processors.
- Experience with micro-services, micro-frontend architecture
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & standard processes for the complete software development process, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Hands-on experience working in a public cloud environment (AWS)
- The position may require travel
Bonus:

- Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms
