Job Description
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Corporate Counsel, Employment Law to join our Legal Team based in Boston, MA! This position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a fast-paced, dynamic Legal Department supporting Chewy’s Corporate and Healthcare teams with respect to employment and labor law.
The successful candidate will be both a strategic advisor and hands-on problem solver, providing practical, business-oriented day-to-day employment law advice and counseling to HR professionals and business managers regarding Corporate, Customer Care, and Pharmacy employees. This position requires a proactive approach and close collaboration with human resources and, other business stakeholders, and the other attorneys in the Legal Department.
What You'll Do:
- Partner with HR professionals and other business stakeholders to act as a trusted legal adviser, providing advice and counseling on multi-jurisdictional employment laws, including, but not limited to, wage/hour compliance; leaves of absence and accommodations; drug testing and background screenings; discrimination; and retaliation.
- Advise HR professionals on emerging legislative and regulatory changes affecting employment and labor obligations in multi-jurisdictional operations.
- Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance.
- Develop and deliver proactive training to business leaders on a wide variety of employment law matters.
- Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding employment litigation, government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state/local agencies) as well as attorney demand letters and claims involving employment-related concerns.
- Draft and negotiate employment-related documents including separation agreements and restrictive covenant agreements.
- Partner with and advise HR professionals regarding internal investigations, as well as compensation, ERISA, and immigration matters.
What You'll Need:
- JD from an accredited school with strong academic credentials.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience practicing employment law, in-house and/or with a national or regional law firm.
- Significant experience in identifying employment law risks and formulating strategies regarding same, as well as in providing practical, timely, and solution-oriented advice and counseling to business clients at various levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and develop practical solutions that mitigate legal risks and align with business objectives.
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility in keeping with the level of experience in employment law.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills. This position requires fast-paced multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage multiple issues involving business partners in various locations.
- Active license to practice law in at least one state and ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in Florida.
- Candidate should possess empathy, excellent professional judgment, and a good sense of humor.
- The position may require occasional travel.
