We're looking for a collaborative, customer-focused, and creative Senior Engineering Manager to lead and mentor our Platform Data Engineering team. This is a hands-on role—contributing to technical design, providing architectural guidance, and jumping into code and support when needed. Responsibilities:
- Lead and guide the platform data engineering team, providing support for daily tasks and mentoring team members to advance their careers within data engineering
- Build and cultivate a top talent team, managing 4+ direct reports
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across diverse groups
- Collaborate with product manager and other stakeholders to guide data platform strategy and development
- Engage in technical discussions and design reviews, and contribute code as needed to support the development of CMT’s data platform
- Provide required support and troubleshoot production
- Evolve the data engineering development practices, operational standards, and processes
- Complete any additional tasks as they arise
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Data Science
- 8+ years of relevant working experience as a Data Engineer or Cloud Engineer with data focus
- 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership experience, with preference on experience managing and leading SCRUM teams
- Up-to-date knowledge on the latest technologies and trends in data engineering
- Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects on track
- Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
- Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience. Experience with working in international environment, communicating with teams overseas is a plus
- Extensive experience with database, data lakehouses, data warehousing and ETL processes (e.g. Delta lake, Spark, AWS Redshift, AWS S3)
- Proficiency in software development for data manipulation (e.g., Python, PySpark) and willingness to utilize these skills for hands-on coding as needed
- Experience working to support data analytics and data science teams
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog and data contracts
- Experience using Redshift, AWS Glue, EC2, Lambda, RDS (PostgreSQL), S3 and Dynamo
- Experience with Docker, Terraform and CloudFormation
- Experience building scalable data processing systems for production environment
- Ability to navigate code, request data from data sources, and code for bug fixes
