Can you share the details on what Soofa does?Molly LaFlesh

Soofa is the neighborhood news feed that connects a community with screens everyone can see and anyone can use.

The Soofa Sign gives everyone a voice. Soofa empowers community members to share relevant local content, businesses of all sizes to engage with customers, artists to showcase their work, and cities to better communicate with their citizens.

Why is Soofa hiring during the pandemic?

Soofa is continuing to grow, and our Soofa Signs are more relevant than ever.

We’re a key source of information for communities—cities can run PSAs on our Signs, and we’re offering relief for small businesses

The vast majority of the tech workforce is looking for a purpose-driven environment, and Soofa provides social impact in our day-to-day.

Who are some of your customers?

In addition to cities and community members, Soofa provides a voice for businesses large and small, including LiveNation, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Fidelity, Wegmans, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and many many more household names.

What are your company’s core values or how would you best describe the culture and working environment at Soofa?

Soofa’s mission is to make cities smart, social, and sustainable, and those themes define our team culture as well.

When we’ve surveyed the team, the top 5 most common words that come up to describe Soofa culture are warm, supportive, fun, intense, and agile.

Is there anything that you’d like to share in terms of promoting diversity across your company and hiring practices?

Soofa has an overall commitment to diversity and belonging, with a particular focus on having a balanced team of at least 50% female-identifying people, including on our leadership team.

From a big picture point of view, what experience or traits do you typically look for when interviewing and hiring new employees into Soofa?

These!

What’s the best way to get a job at Soofa?

Prove you love Soofa’s product, not just our culture. Our culture works because of our mission to grow Soofa Signs into more neighborhoods. Try out the product before your interview—make some community content and post it with SoofaTalk.com.

Be weird and interesting. Stick to specific questions in your interview—instead of “what’s the company culture?,” try asking the thing you’re actually wondering:  “I see Soofa HQ is near the Charles River. Is there somewhere to store my kayak?”

Be persistent and remember you are great.

What can someone expect during the interview process?

Generally our process includes:

  1. A phone interview with the People Operations team.
  2. An in-person meeting with the hiring manager
  3. A take-home work challenge
  4. Calls with three of your professional references
  5. And a final interview where you’ll get the opportunity to meet the entire team

What types of activities are employees involved in at or outside the office?

On the personal side, a little of everything:  running sketch comedy teams, teaching yoga, planning galas for the Gift of Life Foundation, riding personal Bird scooters around Boston, flying airplanes, volunteering as EMTs, making art, going to burner parties, golfing 100+ days a year...couch potatoes need not apply.

I Can’t take a pic right now because of quarantine, but we can see into Hubspot’s Cambridge HQ and get inspired by all the great work they’re doing.
