Quick Hit Company Details

  • Year Founded: 2011
  • Number of employees: About 96 currently, but we’re hiring!
  • Industry: Software / Networking
  • Stage: Private Equity owned

Can you share the details on what AppNeta does?

AppNeta delivers SaaS-based network and end-user experience performance monitoring for any cloud, every user, and all of your business locations. Essentially, we help IT professionals provide consistent, high-quality access to critical SaaS business applications.

Describe the inner workings of your TruPath™ technology. Explain some key features that make AppNeta’s product unique.

TruPath is the core technology of the AppNeta Performance Manager. We created this patented technology because legacy approaches to network monitoring effectively require you to own every device on the internet, which simply doesn’t work for IT organizations that need to understand end-user experience with SaaS and web applications. TruPath uses a lightweight, continuous methodology that allows accurate network performance monitoring without flooding a network (which would make the network unusable). If TruPath identifies an issue it will automatically escalate the monitoring to a hop-by-hop diagnostic test and then run the results through an AI-based pattern matching algorithm to identify the root cause of performance problems.

Who are some of your customers?

AppNeta’s customers include Colgate-Palmolive, eBay, Fuze, Kimberly-Clark, Marriott, McDonald's, Netflix, PayPal, and more.

What are your company’s core values or how would you best describe the culture and working environment at AppNeta?

At the center of AppNeta’s culture are our three core values -- transparency, performance, and trust. First, we actively promote transparent communication with each other about all of our initiatives, how they drive the business, and how we’re executing against our plans. We believe that this transparency is essential in a growth company with ambitious goals. Second, we understand that our individual performance maps to our team performance, which ultimately maps to overall company success. That’s why we give 100% every day to our work, to our customers, and to each other. And third, we trust each other to perform our jobs with integrity, quality, and a sense of urgency. We believe so strongly in these values that we celebrate the team members that best embody these values with our monthly Most Valued AppNetian (MVA) Award!

With those values as our foundation, we celebrate our successes with some fun too! We have a few big company outings like our annual summer event and holiday party, as well as regular team events like trivia and local volunteer opportunities.

Is there anything that you’d like to share in terms of promoting diversity across your company and hiring practices?

We’re big believers that diversity makes AppNeta stronger, and that equal opportunity and equal pay make for better employees, better leaders… and as a result, better companies. That’s why we’re certified by Glassdoor as an organization that’s committed to pay equality. We also offer generous paid maternity, paternity, and family care leave as a few of the many concrete ways we support women and families to encourage overall diversity at AppNeta.

From a big picture point of view, what experience or traits do you typically look for when interviewing and hiring new employees into AppNeta?

At AppNeta, we look for people who are top of their field, but who also share our company values -- transparency, performance, and trust. We believe it’s just as important for candidates to interview us as it is for us to interview them, which is why we expect candidates to ask questions and engage with us throughout the process in order to make sure there’s a cultural fit on both sides.

What can people expect over the course of their career at AppNeta?

AppNeta is committed to helping each and every member of the team grow and develop in their career. That’s why we dedicate so much time to training and professional development, and also why we’re such big fans of internal promotions. In fact, this past year, we promoted nearly 21% of our staff.

What types of activities are employees involved in at or outside the office?

Two years ago we officially formed the AppNeta Culture Committee, which has representatives from each team and is responsible for planning regular activities in and out of the office. We love a good theme party, and we take Halloween very seriously around here. But the crowd favorite has to be our monthly trivia night! In addition, we regularly partner with charitable organizations such as Cradles to Crayons, the MSPCA, Toys for Tots, and others to make sure we always maintain a focus on giving back to our community.

Share one or more random fun facts about AppNeta.

We can neither confirm nor deny that we have dart boards with the logos of key competitors. But if we did, you can bet we’d have had to retire a few due to overuse. Hypothetically, of course.

We’ve been known to encourage streaming of large sports events because our network performance demo environment is directly connected to our office internet and nothing says network congestion like 20 simultaneous streams from ESPN.

Employee Testimonials

“AppNeta is constantly changing in the best way - new employees have an immediate impact on culture so every hire is important. My role has evolved over the past 3 years to cover all sides of Marketing and the team here has been incredibly supportive while I gained responsibility and ownership of various projects and initiatives.”

- Alec Pinkham, Director of Product Marketing

“The people I work with at AppNeta have become like a second family to me. It's a fast-paced, fun environment and I look forward to work every day. There have been many opportunities for me to grow here, and my role has continually evolved over the years while gaining exposure to every facet of the organization. I started as an entry level analyst and am now a Senior Operations Specialist with full ownership of our Salesforce platform.”

- Katie Timmerman, Senior Operations Specialist

“Professionally speaking, the AppNeta environment is one that keeps me engaged and forces me to perpetually learn. I've gone from making 100+ cold-calls per day with a product demo as my endgame to being responsible for the maintenance of the contracts of 100+ customers.

On a personal note, it's been my entire post-college working life, and I've made great friends and soaked up as much as possible from their successes. The company has always respected work/life balance, and I'm happy to have been able to take time off without worrying about inconveniencing anyone.

Ultimately, I'm thankful that I've had the opportunity to work under management that has expertly navigated the growth process. Things move quickly in technology, and our executive team has done a tremendous job of putting us in a position to continually succeed.”

- Brian Costain, Senior Customer Success Manager
