Working In Boston Tech: Alignable
Today in our Working In Boston Tech series, we hear from the team at Boston's Alignable! Alignable is the free social network for local business to grow their network and join together with nearby businesses in their community. The network allows local business owners to connect, collaborate and build relationships with others nearby, in their industry, and based on interests.
What's it like to work at your company in terms of your culture?
Focused. We recently raised our Series B, and the time to scale is now. We’re 100% dedicated to providing the global social network for local business, and while we have a ton of businesses already loving the platform, our most important work lies ahead. Our culture is no BS, fast paced, results driven, ownership, creative, small team oriented and visible. We don’t tolerate disrespect or ego, and we’ll never select talent over culture.
What’s the best way to get a job at Alignable?
Tell us about all the ideas we haven’t thought of yet, we thrive on creativity and testing! You can also apply via our jobs page or check out our BIZZpage, and we also love when people use their existing network to get an introduction to a member of the team here at Alignable. If someone in the community is willing to introduce you, that goes a long way. If you are applying, we love to talk with people who have owned, conceptualized or worked on meaningful projects in the past with successful outcomes (we also love to hear about what you’ve learned from those prior experiences).
What can someone expect during the interview process?
Expect an honest conversation. We want people here who genuinely want to be here, building Alignable’s mission. Talent and skill is great, but we expect passion, life is too short to work on something you don’t genuinely care about. During your interview, you’ll meet with folks on your team as well as other departments to ensure you can see across the entire company. Expect a challenging and engaging interview, we have a high bar for talent and need people who can make it over the wall.
What can people expect over the course of their career at Alignable?
While we may have raised over $10M in funding, we’re still a small team < 20 employees. You can fully expect to own, learn and contribute to some of the most important projects the company will ever launch. As our company grows, so will you. We have an experienced team at Alignable, and we take a keen interest in helping employees get to their next level of desired growth by operating within a results focused and fast-paced environment.
Are there any favorite activities that the employees do outside of the office?
We just moved to Boston and are all looking forward to enjoying the city! We also have off-sites and charity events on the horizon for this year. As the team keeps growing, you can expect some new activities and traditions to start forming, so join us now and have your say!
Are there any fun facts or unique stories that you can share about Alignable or individuals that work there?
Prior to starting Alignable, Co-Founder Venkat created a 3D software program that has been used in the production of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Cast Away, Harry Potter, Spiderman and many other films!
What TV or movie would best describe the working environment and employees at Alignable?
Fast and the Furious (ok, maybe just the title). Local businesses are at a disadvantage, we’re furious about it and working as fast as we can to restore the power.
Do you have any unique benefits or perks?
Our insurance coverage is above average for a startup. Employees can WFH and take time off as needed, we find that well-balanced people are the ones who produce the best results and a bunch of employees are married with children. The office is also located right across the street from the TD Garden, making it accessible to all surrounding neighborhoods.
What’s on tap or in your fridge?
In our fridge right now there’s water, juice, Downeast, Harpoon, Cisco, Lagunitas and Siracha. We also have snacks, team breakfasts and happy hours.
