I probably started listening to podcasts back in 2005-2006, on my 15GB, early-generation iPod. I would drive to the office and use my iTrip adapter, where you could wirelessly transmit the audio through your car stereo. Sometimes, it would break up based on other competing FM signals.
On the commute, I would listen to Greg Galant’s Venture Voice, who interviewed lots of entrepreneurs like Ev Williams when he was working on Odeo at the time or Reid Hoffman during the early days of LinkedIn. I then started to listen to Andrew Warner’s Mixergy, and would have his interviews playing in the background at work.
Fast forward to today, I consume more podcast content than ever, since there are many high-quality options out there. I find it to be an easy way to stay current and keep learning from others.
As Gary Vaynerchuk has written about in the past, the medium of podcasting only continues to grow. In today’s mobile era, it is now a lot easier to consume podcasts through different apps and devices than it was on my clunky iPod setup. Therefore, consumers are listening to podcasts, just like I do, as a way to stay informed.
At VentureFizz, our goal is to educate people on the Boston tech scene, and to provide useful advice specific to our industry. Now, it’s our turn to take this next step and use the power and convenience of podcasting to keep you informed.
Thus, I’m really excited to announce that VentureFizz is launching our first podcast on Monday, and it’s called Career Inspiration!
When I first started to think about putting a podcast together, I definitely wanted to take a different approach from some of the other great podcasts in the Boston tech scene that interview founders and investors.
My goal with our new podcast is to give you some practical insight and advice in different functional areas.
For the first season of our Career Inspiration podcast, I interviewed thought leaders who are leading the talent acquisition function at some of Boston’s fastest growing tech companies.
As you are aware, hiring an exceptional team is the cornerstone for any successful company, and since we connect talent to many great companies through our Job Board and BIZZpage, it was a natural fit for us to tackle this topic first.
We’ll take a deep dive into how you build out a talent acquisition function at different stages of companies, from early, venture-backed startups to publicly traded companies that are at hypergrowth scale.
If you are a founder, hiring manager, or someone already in the talent acquisition function, you’ll want to catch every episode, as there’s lots of great insights and practical advice that you can use.
In addition, I wanted the podcast to be useful for job seekers, so we’ll cover the details from each company in terms of what positions they are hiring for, the best way to get a job there, and other useful tips for interviewing.
Who is our first guest, you ask? Well, you'll have to check back with us on Monday to find out!
