Datadog Raises $15M for Monitoring & Data Analytics Platform

Boston-based OpenView Ventures announced yesterday that they led a Series B round of funding for Datadog, a monitoring and data analytics platform with offices in Boston & NYC.

In all, the company raised $15M with Index Ventures, RTP Ventures, Amplify Partners, IA Ventures, and Contour Ventures joining the round as well.

In addition to the funding announcement, the press release stated that OpenView’s Managing Director Dev Ittycheria will join Datadog’s board of directors. Ittycheria was previously the founder and CEO of BladeLogic.

The company plans to use the latest financing to develop “the next-generation monitoring platform for highly scalable cloud infrastructure.”

Additionally, Datadog will also be adding new members to the team, especially in its engineering department.  The company also plans to grow its sales and marketing teams in New York and Boston.

As Ittycheria said in the press release, “Increasingly organizations are shifting their computing workloads from static on-premise infrastructure to elastically scaling clouds.”

“Easily adding and changing compute capacity is a major benefit of the cloud, but also introduces a level of dynamism that overwhelms legacy monitoring systems,” he added. “Datadog has created a monitoring platform that has been explicitly designed to monitor highly elastic compute environments on public or private clouds as well as to support traditional computing infrastructure.”

The new funding kicks off a new year that hopes to match a very successful 2013. Last year, Datadog added hundreds of  new customers and brought over 30,000 servers onto its monitoring service.
