Where did you grow up? What did your parents do for work?
I grew up in Holliston, a small town about 45 minutes from Boston. My mom is a dentist and my dad is involved with the business side of dentistry. I didn’t get the teeth gene but I believe most of my skills were learned listening to my dad on calls.
Where did you go to college? What did you study and what were some of your initial jobs out of school?
When I first started applying to college I was interested in going to a larger out of state school, but after touring Emerson I decided to apply just before the deadline. I was one of the first students in a new Visual Media Arts program for Interactive Media. I was able to focus on a wide variety of classes ranging from video production to new media and web design. While in school I had a variety of internships that allowed me to experience marketing both in-house and at an agency. Directly out of college I worked with a local camera rental house on the marketing team. Shortly after, I was introduced to 829.
What has attributed to your success thus far and has helped propel you to the position you have now?
Working at 829 has been an amazing experience and I’ve been really fortunate to learn a tremendous amount from those around me. I’ve been trusted to help build an incredible team who not only works hard to help our clients succeed but absolutely love what they do. It’s great having a culture that allows people the freedom to try new things. Some of our best ideas have stemmed from being allowed to run wild with a new idea. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a variety of roles at 829 and help start new departments from the ground up that stemmed from conversations over coffee and in elevator rides.
Can you share the high-level responsibilities of your current position as Director of Marketing at 829 Studios?
As Director of Marketing, I get to wear a lot of different hats. On any given day I might be working with the social or search team on developing campaigns, meeting directly with clients providing marketing and business strategy, traveling to conferences and speaking to attendees about new and exciting marketing techniques, or even on-location at a video or photo shoot.
Any tips for someone considering a career in marketing?
Be flexible and willing to try new things. Failure is the key to success. Find solutions, not problems. Most importantly, be excited and passionate about the projects you work on.
Day in the Life
Coffee, tea, or nothing?
Nothing good happens before coffee
What time do you get into the office?
I’m not a morning person, my brain activates at night, that said I’m in at 8:30-9am.
What are three things that motivate you in your role?
Maya - the office pup
What time do you head out of the office?
Depends on the day! I never really head out of the office, I just head to the home office.
Do you log back in at night or do you shut it down completely?
I log back in. Sometimes my best ideas come to me at night.
What are the three apps that you can’t live without?
What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
We were recently named #12 on the BBJ Fast 50 list. I love being able to see how we’ve grown and helped so many different clients.
Who do you admire or call upon for professional advice?
My dad is on speed dial. He has so much experience and advice from his years of management. He helps me put things into perspective and be a sounding board. It’s a great resource to have after a tough day. I should probably get him some 829 swag for continuing to take my calls.
