$1.5M Granted to Startups at MassChallenge Awards Ceremony

Last night at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, MassChallenge, the no-equity startup accelerator, announced the winners of the Boston 2015 program, awarding $1.5 million in non-dilutive grants to 16 startups. As expected, it was an amazing night of energy, passion for entrepreneurship, and a whole lotta love for Boston!

Over 1,600 members of the Boston startup community gathered at the sixth-annual awards ceremony and the event featured a showcase of the 128 MassChallenge Boston startups, pitches from the top 26, and speeches from DraftKings CEO and Co-Founder Jason Robins, Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh. Many of our ecosystem's familiar faces took the stage throughout the night as well, including Startup Institute CEO, Diane Hessan, Ministry Of Supply Co-Founder, Kit Hickey and of course, Scott Bailey and John Harthorne of MassChallenge.

“Tonight is what it’s all about - great startups and a room of full of people who helped them get there,” said MassChallenge Boston Managing Director Scott Bailey. “I’m extremely proud of all 128 startups that came through the accelerator this summer and look forward to continuing the journey with them.”

MassChallenge also used the platform for a major announcement - the expansion of its global accelerator network - detailing plans to launch a MassChallenge accelerator in Jerusalem inext year and that it has advanced to the next step toward launching a program in Mexico.

        Jason Robins at MassChallenge

The night, which saw Robins of DraftKings proclaim his love and devotion for our city and the importance he feels in growing a successful consumer tech company in Boston, one of the best live event soundtracks ever produced, investors standing on chairs, a terrible-towel rally, a circular piano performance, a governor dropping a "wicked," and exciting announcements from MassChallenge, concluded with all of the accelerator finalists being recognized by Bailey as they took center stage to the amazing sounds of Afro Brazil. And this was what the night, with all it's impressive bells and whistles, was all about - the entrerpeneurs and the products and companies they're building.

Every startup has moved their businesses forward over the past few months with MassChallenge, and 16, specifically, took an even bigger step after taking home some serious money!
