Position Summary:

The Billing Rules Technical Implementation Associate is responsible for implementing billing rules in athenas billing rules engine based on business requirements defined by teammates. The Associate will become an expert in healthcare insurance claim formatting and in athenas billing rules engine. The position requires analytical thinking, superior attention to detail, and strong communication skills.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

40% Create and Test Billing Rules

  • Define and implement rule logic that meets defined business requirements in the RuleTracker and/or Decision Management tool.
  • Complete testing to ensure that logic performs as expected.
  • Document your work according to change management requirements and guidelines.
  • Adhere to defined standards and processes, and suggest revisions when processes and standards can be improved.
  • Ensure that your tasks are completed within defined Turn Around Time standards.

30% Review business requirements

  • Review business requirements to assess and define technical feasibility and adherence to compliance requirements, and work with colleagues to close any gaps.
  • Define and document technical requirements.
  • Adhere to defined standards and processes, and suggest revisions when processes and standards can be improved.
  • Ensure that your tasks are completed within defined Turn Around Time standards.

30% Interface with Rules Development team

  • Hand off tasks that require software development skills to our development team.
  • Work collaboratively with the development team to improve your own knowledge of technical implementation requirements and best practices, and improve their understanding of business requirements.
  • Ensure that tasks are completed within defined Turn Around Time standards by completing your work within defined timelines and by following up with the development team when needed.

Education & Experience Required:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience; experience with Decision Management is a plus
  • Experience working with healthcare claims in a QA or Audit function is a plus
  • Familiarity and comfort around web/software applications and development life cycle, with a basic understanding of cloud-based SaaS and Agile terminology

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Interest in solving complex Healthcare billing problems; Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification and/or healthcare revenue cycle experience are a plus
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to complex regulations and developing policies and procedures
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and is comfortable acting as a teacher and mentor by providing constructive feedback every day
