Senior Manager, Product Marketing

The Senior Manager, Product Marketing is a member of the Product Marketing team within the overall Content and Communications team. This role will focus on leading the development of product messaging for clients, client-facing teams, prospects, and Sales. This Manager will work with other members of the Product Marketing and cross-functional teams to develop and deliver clear messaging around the benefits and best practices of athenahealths products and services.

The Senior Manager, Product Marketing will (among other things):

  • Lead development of communication tools and collateral to promote new features, functionality, and services to both prospects and existing clients (e.g. sales collateral and rollout/release communications such as demos, release videos, eLearning, FAQs, User Conference content)
  • Support the cross-sell of products and services to existing clients through development of marketing materials and campaigns
  • Support the Content team in the creation of product-related case studies, white papers, and collateral
  • Become a client expert for marketing and communication efforts - understanding client segments, profiles, and motivators.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of how athenahealths products compare to competition and market needs.
  • Contribute to overall improvement of internal and cross-team processes related to prospect and client communications

This role will primarily focus on supporting product marketing efforts for our athenaCommunicator product. Patient engagement and patient communications experience is a strong plus for this role.

The Manager, Product Marketing must:

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Possess strong leadership and management skills
  • Be able to conduct market and product research in order to understand our products, competitors products, and the market we inhabit
  • Work effectively within a team, yet have the ability to take initiative and work effectively on his or her own
  • Be able to collaborate across departments


  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required, advanced degree preferred
  • Strong people management skills
  • Minimum of 6-8 years work experience in product marketing, content, and/or marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to drive project ideation, development, and execution and assume sole and independent responsibility for assigned projects
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects at once, prioritizing tasks as needed
  • Excellent meeting management and effective verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully project manage projects and collaborate with a cross-functional team under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively, without direct reporting authority, to get results
  • Demonstrated success at innovating in a fast paced, very dynamic environment
  • Willing and excited to work in a fast-paced, but sometimes intense, rapidly expanding company
  • Enthusiasm, idealism, creativity, dedication and an open mind
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a 3 to 6 person team
  • Proven track record of managing other's performance/team performance
  • Ability to communicate cross functionally across all level's of the company
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Able to think critically and view the big picture
