About the role....

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Marketing leader to significantly accelerate the marketing and communications of Inari. As Inari has continued to reach critical scientific and go-to-market milestones, the time is right to bring the story and unique impact of Inari to a broader audience both within NA but also globally. This role will be responsible for refining the brand positioning of Inari, for all key audiences -- customers, investors, the media and influencers, the broader public, as well as the internal Inari audience. They will lead the work to translate that positioning into a clear marketing and communications campaign to increase excitement about and confidence in Inari across these groups. They will lead the execution of this plan, which will kick off September 2020 and continue on an ongoing basis within NA and globally. This role will be based in Cambridge, MA and will report to the Chief Growth Officer.

As Senior Director, Marketing & Communications you will

  • Refine the Inari brand positioning to reflect the unique role that Inari plays in the intersecting worlds of agriculture and biotechnology
  • Create the communications and PR campaign to drive awareness and excitement about Inari across key audiences -- customers, investors, media, key influencers in the ag/biotech space and general public
  • Lead the two-person marketing team based in West Lafayette, and leveraging the Inari spokesperson to execute the marketing & communications plan beginning Sept 2020 and continuing as an ongoing campaign
  • Create the internal guidebook to the Inari positioning, ensuring that cross-functional team members have materials and resources needed for internal and external events
  • Ensure Inari has a strong presence at key ag and biotech events in NA and globally
  • Leverage the Inari spokesperson and members of the Inari Leadership Team to respond to media requests, providing media training and other resources for Inari speakers
  • Partner with individuals across Inari to ensure the Communications team is a value-added resource to the organization
  • Lead the cross-functional team responsible for the execution of Innovation Day across Investor Relations and Seed Architects
  • Partner with Human Resources on employee branding & internal communications efforts
  • Work closely with the Seed Architects marketing team to ensure consistent messaging in our go-to-market communications
  • Provide support to the Investor Relations team as materials are developed

You Bring

  • At least 10 years in a marketing role in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Past roles in agriculture and/or biotechnology is preferred but not required
  • Multiple experiences developing brand positioning, reflecting stakeholder feedback and audience research techniques
  • Deep background of creating and executing marketing campaign plans, using multiple communications levers and reaching a wide range of audiences in NA and globally
  • An ability to think strategically about differentiated positioning and audience segmentation, matched with a strong executional drive to deliver targeted messages efficiently
  • Extensive experience with digital media, media relations, and event activation
  • Strong written communications skills
  • An extensive network of relationships with media and agencies
  • A flexible communications style, able to speak credibly and clearly to a range of audiences with differing levels of industry knowledge
  • Flexibility to adjust plans and approaches based on evolving needs and business requirements
  • Experience managing teams, both co-located and virtual
  • Strong strategic and financial skills
  • A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact solutions
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning
