What were building
The role:
Were looking for a Senior Product Designer with experience delivering intuitive B2B or enterprise product experiences; with an established design process that includes identifying user goals through to shipping the product, working closely with an engineering team and other designers along the way. If you have experience designing developer tooling and view the command line as an important user experience, youd fit right in on our team.
At Tidelift, the product and design teams run as a single unit. Were a fast-growing startup where enthusiasm for getting in the weeds of a technical product and developer experience is a necessity and efficient collaboration without ego and swimlanes is key. We are a small team growing quickly, so if you want to build your skills in product or development, or continue to deepen your craft as a designer, all of those opportunities are available to you here.
Design leadership. We are laying the foundation right now of what a larger design team will look like in the future. We need senior level experience to create and foster design culture, team growth activities (critiques, engineering walkthroughs, facilitating strategic sessions) as well as providing design services to other functions in the organization. If working with a sales team colleague to design a customer pilot or discovery session intrigues you, this would be a great role for you.
A trained designer. We are looking for a visual and interaction designer. You are an expert at taking complicated, technical ideas, untangling them, and turning them into thoughtful interactive prototypes that clarify complex ideas for the team. You should be able to translate a set of user goals into comprehensive feature flows. You should be comfortable applying an existing brand identity and design system to prototypes. We need this hire to have the emotional antenna to know when we should be rapid-prototyping vs. polishing; someone who can determine the right approach for the right moment, come up with a path forward, get other stakeholders on board, and then deliver on it.
User-centered design. We use lean research methods to explore product ideas, as well as run usability testing. You will be an active participant in customer interviews, synthesizing findings with the team, and integrating new learning into your work.
Developer user experience matters. You see the command line as a user experience; you're excited to design complex, technical tools for multiple audiences across Web UIs, command line tools, or even API output in developers environments.
Communication skills. We're remote-first, so clear communication and collaboration skills are essential. This includes working with engineering and product to ship the product and also leveraging the design thinking process to create business value across the organization.
Our values
Were trying to build a healthy, values-driven culture. We want to be:
- Optimistic: We see an amazing future ahead, and want to inspire others to share in it. This is both internalbuilding each other up and looking for the best in peopleand externalwe know open source is awesome, and we want to make it even better.
- Practical: We know words and ideas alone wont change lives. We help people most by creating a pragmatic, viable, and sustainable business that works for everyone. So we care about usability, design, and honest assessment of costs and benefits.
- Additive: We want an environment that encourages and inspires growth, both for individuals and for the open source community as a whole. That means embracing a growth mindset, and valuing culture add over culture fit.
- Inclusive: We believe technology will be stronger when it better reflects the voices and ideas of society as a whole. So we want people from different backgrounds and experiences to not just be represented, but to be heard, valued, and flourish. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment.
