As a Platform Product Manager, you help ensure that we:
- Focus on the Platform Team Youll help us treat Platform as a Product. This role will be the dedicated Product Manager within our Platform Engineering pillar. We have the following teams that represent Platform Engineering.
- App Platform: Builds the primitives on which our product is built. Maintains application-dependent infrastructure
- DUME: Owns delivery, uploading, transcoding, CDN delivery of audio and video
- Infrastructure: Builds the primitives on which our services are built. Maintains and operates cloud infrastructure
- Build it simple Simplicity is the highest form of beauty. We value simplicity in everything we do, from our operations, interfaces to the backend systems, and services that support them.
- Think long-term Our mission is to make business more human. This is not a mission that can be accomplished in a few years its something we will work on for many decades to come, which is why we care so much about long-term thinking and decision-making, especially when it comes to our products.
- Understanding the needs of our customers and business - Our strategy relies on teams being very close to our customers to deeply understand their needs and anticipate what they want before they know to ask. Beyond that, we need to intimately know the needs of our business and peers. The PMs that thrive at Wistia focus on both our customers and our business problems, and develop solutions with those needs in mind.
- Communicate the why The best products are built by teams with the most context. We have a culture in which understanding all parts of the business is highly valued: our product design decisions, our infrastructure, our finances, everything. As a Platform Product Manager at Wistia, your success will be measured by:
- Product Vision - Construct and communicate the platform product roadmap, focusing on evolving our services and delivering customer value. This will be a collaborative and strategic effort with the Platform Engineering team, and you will help guide and provide a long-term vision.
- Customer centricity Serve as the voice of the customer to our Platform Engineering team. In doing so, youll help us maximize the customer impact were having, and ensure that we're always prioritizing the right work. You'll also give voice to internal stakeholders who rely on and benefit from our internal tools.
- Communication Communicate to stakeholders to ensure they have visibility into the Platform Teams work and see the value of it. These stakeholders include senior management, other product managers working on more front-end facing features, and peers on different teams all together.
- Goal Setting Defining and reviewing the metrics and goals that define our success against the overall vision. Once set, using that information to clarify and empower the organization and refine our approach.
- Iterative operations We always strive to break big pieces of work into smaller chunks and this includes development on the Platform team as well. Promoting this operating model and keeping it consistent across multiple teams is critical for continuity and ensuring were always focusing on outcomes.
- Learning and empathy - You trust your technical peers and their opinions, but youre always curious to learn more and understand their work more deeply so you can be more connected and supportive to them.
- Moving fast and feeling positive You enjoy working on new opportunities that can sometimes be ambiguous. Weve got a lot of learning to do, so our teams need to be nimble and have a great time doing it. We dont play the blame game.
